Do you want to spend your vacation in Greece, but don't know exactly where yet?

Then let yourself be inspired by ten of the most beautiful places.

1 / 10Next to Rome, Athens is one of the most historic cities in Europe.

It is considered the cradle of democracy and has produced well-known philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.

The Acropolis with the Parthenon and the sanctuary of Zeus towers above the metropolis, the highlight of every visit to the Greek capital.

At the foot of the Acropolis Rock is also the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (as shown in the photo), where events still take place today.

2 / 10The Greek Cyclades island of Santorini is no longer an insider tip and is overrun by tourists in the summer months.

Above all, the picturesque village of Oia is a real visitor hotspot - everyone wants to see the typical, whitewashed houses that cling to the cliffs.

If you want to explore the winding streets in peace, you can travel there in the low season in April or October.

3 / 10Corfu is one of the most famous holiday destinations in Greece.

Tourists especially appreciate the countless beaches that can be found in every corner of the island.

But Corfu has even more to offer - such as the viewpoint at Cape Drastis (seen here in the picture), the old Venetian fortress in Corfu Town or the Achilleion Palace of Empress Sisi.

4 / 10If you want to see a little more of nature in Greece than the beaches, then the Pindos Mountains in the northwest of the country are in the right place.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the Vikos Gorge is the “deepest gorge in the world” and its limestone walls lead almost vertically down around 1,000 meters.

There is a great view of the landscape from the now abandoned Paraskevi Monastery, which was built directly into the rocks.

5 / 10Paros is one of the lesser-known islands of the Hellenic Republic - but it has everything you could want from a holiday in Greece.

White sandy beaches, spectacular rock formations and picturesque places with white houses, blue shutters and lush flowers on the facade.

An example of this is the port town of Naoussa, which has retained its charm as a fishing village thanks to its Cycladic architecture.

6 / 10The southernmost peninsula in Greece, Peloponnese, offers a perfect mix of cultural and beach holidays.

Some of the most famous ancient sites are located here - including the sanctuary of Zeus, Olympia, which is also the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

Those looking to relax after a busy day of sightseeing can choose from some of Greece's most beautiful beaches.

One example is Divari Beach, which stretches for several kilometers along a lagoon-like bay.

7 / 10Greece has numerous popular holiday islands such as Rhodes, Corfu and Crete - but the comparatively small island of Kefalonia is also worth seeing.

In front of a breathtaking mountain backdrop are idyllic villages like Assos - a row of colorful houses that invite you to stroll.

There are also numerous white sand and pebble beaches for a relaxing afternoon.

8 / 10Lots of culture and some time out on the beach – the port city of Thessaloniki in the north of Greece is perfect for that.

Romans, Macedonians and Ottomans have ruled here over the centuries, which is reflected in the cityscape.

The most impressive buildings include the Hagia Sophia - not to be confused with the church of the same name in Istanbul - the White Tower and the Rotunda of Galerius.

Since the city is not overcrowded with tourists, unlike the southern regions, it is a great way to get to know authentic Greece.

9 / 10The monasteries of Meteora are one of the most impressive sights in Greece due to their unique location on the top of 500 meter high sandstone cliffs.

They are located in the Thessaly region, near the city of Kalambaka.

The building materials are said to have been dragged onto the rocks using ropes and elevators - only later were paths built to make the climb easier.

Of the once 24 monasteries, six can still be visited today.

10 / 10Crete is the perfect holiday destination for travelers who want to cover all activities: hiking in the Samaria Gorge, experiencing culture at Knossos Palace and relaxing on the beach.

The Elafonissi beach in the southwest of the island is particularly beautiful.

Not only is the water crystal clear, but the beach is colored soft pink in some places - this is due to thousands of broken shells in the sand.

Greece is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Germans every year.

Above all, travelers long for the beautiful beaches of the islands of Crete, Corfu and Rhodes, but the mainland also has exciting sights and natural spectacles to offer for those interested in culture and active vacationers.
