Anger of farmers: how the government wants to encourage the transfer of farms

The government will therefore raise the exemption thresholds for agricultural inheritances.

The main change on inheritance concerns capital gains on transfers of individual businesses: currently at 500,000 euros for a total exemption and up to 1 million euros for a partial exemption, the thresholds will be raised respectively to 700,000 euros and 1.2 million euros,

A mission on agricultural transmissions

The second increase in the threshold concerns the exemption from inheritance and gift taxes in the event of transfers of rural property given on long-term lease and shares in agricultural land groups, said the minister.

The exemption threshold will be increased from 500,000 to 600,000 euros in the context of a transfer to a young farmer,

“in the event of a ten-year conservation commitment”

The capital gains exemption regime in the event of retirement will also be reviewed,

“in situations of transfers which take place over a long period”
