Murnau – The volunteers of the Murnau volunteer fire department collected well over 9,000 hours last year.
Almost two thirds of these were served on missions.
In 2023, the 109 people actively serving (as of December 31, 2023) went out almost 50 times more often than in the previous year.
Mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP/Citizens' Forum) was grateful and full of praise for the commitment of the Murnauer Wehr at the annual general meeting.
“You are permanently on duty, on standby,” said the town hall boss to the more than 100 members present.
There was no lack of numbers in Florian Krammer's report.
The commander not only gave a comprehensive but also tangible insight into the past year.
In 2023, the members completed a total of 6,351 hours of service.
On top of that there are almost 3,400 hours of practice.
Several courses were completed, 14 people completed the MTA qualification and one person completed the MTA basics.
136 respiratory protection bottles were filled, 125 masks and 168 regulators were cleaned, and the latter were also checked.
Over 320 examples of the hoses were cleaned.
If the work done by the fire department were calculated at an hourly rate of 40 euros, the market town would have an additional expense item of a good 389,000 euros, says Krammer.
It was used 288 times.
The commander said that the local area was spared from “major fires and accidents”.
Last year the fire department counted 241 missions.
There were significantly fewer traffic accidents (2023: 18, 2022: 25), fires (2023: 29, 2022: 34), security guards (2023: 13, 2022: 21) and false alarms (2023: 47, 2022: 62) last year Operations due to snow and storm damage compared to (2023: 74, 2022: 5).
On the first of December, for example, the emergency services were called out because of 40 centimeters of fresh snow: branches were broken, bushes were hanging on the streets, vehicles were stuck.
But Krammer highlighted other missions.
Fires, for example.
A roof structure burned in Pölten, an agricultural property in Saulgrub, a hedge and a kitchen in Murnau, “where a canary died,” and a sawmill in Habach.

When it comes to recruiting young talent, Murnau is by no means on fire.
The youth group has “grown enormously” recently, reported Krammer.
“The young people feel comfortable with us.” The mayor said that the young people show that “you are doing a lot right.”
When it comes to youth work, the armed forces do “something very special,” emphasized deputy district administrator Dr.
Michael Rapp (CSU).
The people of Murnau are also very active when it comes to advertising.
This was evident at the open day last fall.
Then “the visitors overran us,” recalled Krammer.
The fire department “is actually a family” and “actually a tough bunch,” said Beuting.
Fire department representative Michael Hosp (CSU) called the Murnau fire department a really great community.
Rapp spoke of a “real citizens’ initiative”, a citizens’ initiative that does not dissolve once a goal has been achieved.
District fire inspector Andreas Weiß emphasized the importance of togetherness and appealed: “Don’t let your camaraderie be taken away from you!”
Looking ahead to 2024, the commander revealed that emergency roofs will be purchased.
The hailstorm in Bad Bayersoien “triggered a shock,” said Rapp.
Krammer also talked about the construction of the new fire station.
We are exactly on schedule, said Beuting.
We are currently looking for architects in the form of a Europe-wide competition.
And “the architects are very interested.”
