To the list of price increases planned for February in rates, transportation and fuels, one more must be added: the Buenos Aires Government authorized an increase in
the vehicle technical verification (VTV) process
.
The service will cost 62.08% more starting this Thursday, as resolved by an official provision.
For medium vehicles up to 2,500 kg.
For private use, the inspection in the workshops
will cost $15,997
and for motorcycles,
almost $4,800
.
The government of Axel Kicillof published this Wednesday morning in the Official Gazette, Resolution 29/2024, of the Ministry of Transportation, by which it was resolved to "approve the increase in the maximum value of the basic rate of the
vehicle technical verification service ( VTV)
of the Province of Buenos Aires".
The increase was justified by "
the approximate values to be agreed with SMATA
for personnel with an agreement for the September-December 2023 quarter and based on the evolution of the consumer price index (CPI, Indec and other private indices) for the quarter ending in August".
The last tariff adjustment had been in September 2023. The Provincial Directorate of Vehicle Technical Verification explained that "it is appropriate to accommodate the
request made by the concessionaires
", to modify the table of prices regulated by that provincial body.
In CABA there were also increases.
VTV rises 104% in two sections.
The first adjustment has already been applied and took the value, for cars, from $9,296 to $12,567.49, while in March it will go to $19,102.58.
For motorcycles it will jump from $3,495 to $5,057.40 first and to $5,700.49 in the second adjustment moment.
In the Autonomous City, the inspection is
mandatory for vehicles more than four years old
(until this year it started at three years old).
Then, until the car is eight years old, it is done every other year.
In vehicles from 9 years old it must be carried out every 12 months.
The expiration month coincides with the last number of the patent and the fine for not doing so is $58,664.
The VTV is a periodic control of the mechanical state and emission of polluting gases of automobiles.
In Buenos Aires it is
mandatory for cars over two years old and motorcycles from the first year of use
.
The provincial Traffic Code establishes that “circulating without having carried out the mandatory periodic technical inspection will be punished with a fine of 300 UF up to 1000 UF.”
Each "UF" is equivalent to one liter of super gasoline.
Until today, that price is 771 pesos, according to the latest resolution of the Buenos Aires infractions area, which was published at the beginning of January 2024.
So, at current value, driving in the province of Buenos Aires without having taken the VTV would imply
a fine ranging from $231,300 to $771,000
, according to the criteria used by the administrative judge of Misdemeanors who instructs the procedure.
The VTV is a standard required by Mercosur.
"There is an obligation when you cross to another country, mainly for cargo and passengers, to have technical verification from the country of origin," explained the Minister of Transportation, Jorge D'Onofrio, at the time.
The thing is that 45 days ago, when Javier Milei's mega DNU became known, there was a confusion that had a great impact on social networks.
It was said that "it was not mandatory" to show the VTV to circulate.
The idea of the national government authorities would be that it would not be necessary for transit, but it would continue to be a requirement of the Code.
Therefore, if a car is registered in the Province, it must have the wafer that certifies the verification.
If you do not display it, you can continue on your way, but you will be fined.
Driving without the VTV is also grounds for
retaining your driving record
.
In that case, a companion must drive.
"The license is retained and is only returned when the corresponding fine is paid," they indicated from Transportation.
The only exception is for those who circulate with the VTV expired but already have their turn to carry out the control.
The prices to pay to go through the verification workshops are completed with this list: vehicles over 2,500 kg, $28,790;
trailers and trailers up to 2,500 kg, $7,990;
trailers and trailers over 2.5 tons, $14,300.
To appear at the verification plants, a green card, property title (only in the first verification), CUIT (if applicable), CNG card (if applicable), DNI or driver's registration is required.
Buenos Aires has
30 complexes
distributed throughout the territory.
They all apply the same rate.
The owner of a car can go to a plant other than the one that would correspond to the place of residence.
The only condition is that, if due to any defect the vehicle does not pass the inspection, it must be re-inspected at the same workshop.
