Munich Airport is still in the pandemic recovery phase.

By the end of the first quarter of 2024, 80 percent of flight operations are expected to be restored (we reported).

While domestic air traffic in particular is still noticeably slow, other sectors are recovering more quickly.

Airport - Not only have Asian traffic now returned to pre-Corona levels, the numbers are even better than in 2019, reports the Munich Airport Society (FMG).

And that despite the fact that nothing worked here for longer than anywhere else.

According to a spokesman, “new record values will be achieved” in the summer flight schedule period starting on March 31st.

As of now, nine airlines have planned 107 weekly flights to 14 destinations in ten countries in East and South Asia.

Before the pandemic, there were 101 flights to ten destinations in seven states, operated by five airlines.

The destinations in East and South Asia that are currently served from Munich are Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Seoul, Tashkent, Dushanbe, Male, Taipei, Bangkok and Singapore.

According to FMG, the destinations are served by Lufthansa, Air China, All Nippon Airways, BeOnd, EVA Airways, Singapore Airlines, Somon Air, Thai Airways and Uzbekistan Airways.

In order to meet the growing demand for air travel, Lufthansa will temporarily use the world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, on the route to Delhi from April 1, 2024.

The service to Beijing will be increased from three weekly flights to one daily connection from April; Osaka in Japan will be served five times a week from April and also daily from May.

The Japanese airline All Nippon Airways is increasing its offering in Munich from four to seven weekly flights from July 2nd.

Air China is also back at the start - after almost four (!) years of a break due to the pandemic.

As is well known, the country was in a very strict lockdown for a very long time.

From now on there are again three weekly connections from Erdinger Moos to the Chinese economic metropolis Shanghai.

Airbus A350 aircraft are used for this purpose, which are considered to be particularly noise and fuel efficient.

The flights take place every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Landing in Munich is at 6:50 a.m., takeoff towards Shanghai at 12:50 p.m.

What passengers should know: When traveling from Germany to China, the entry rules have recently been simplified, the FMG announced.

German travelers no longer need a visa since December 2023.

This regulation is initially limited to one year and applies to trips lasting up to 15 days.

In addition, group trips by Chinese people to Germany have been possible again without restrictions since August 2023.

“Therefore, an increase in the number of passengers between Germany and China is to be expected this year,” says the spokesman confidently.

Fittingly, there were fortune cookies for the passengers on the first flight.

The last Shanghai flight was dispatched on March 6, 2020.

On the one hand, the China traffic is interesting for tourists, according to the FMG.

On the other hand, there are also numerous business travelers traveling to the Far East.
