At its annual meeting, the Benediktbeuren fire department looked back on a turbulent year in which the volunteers had almost reached their limits.
But what sustains it is the community.
Benediktbeuern – The Benediktbeuern fire department has had a turbulent year.
On the one hand, as reported, this was due to the 671 missions surrounding the hailstorm.
On the other hand, there is also the event marathon surrounding the 150th anniversary.
“The endless events have ensured that we have almost reached our limits with the construction and dismantling work,” said Commander Daniel Sliva at the annual meeting in the fire station.
“But they were completely successful.”
What was certainly outstanding was the erection of the summit cross on the Benediktenwand in mid-July.
“It's not easy to find a village where the fire brigade can take credit for having erected such a cross - and handcrafted it at that,” said Sliva.
The whole village helped make this project a success.
“You have to thank God that nothing happened,” said the commander.
“You just have to imagine what would have happened if the hailstorm had happened that weekend - my dear swan.”
Many exercises had to be canceled
The training operations suffered from the numerous events and large-scale operations.
19 exercises were scheduled, but many had to be canceled.
Among other things, the one for fire protection week that was planned at the school.
Sliva: “We understand when someone says: That’s enough.” The Benediktbeuren residents can rely on exactly 100 firefighters.
There are six women and five members between the ages of 14 and 16.
According to Sliva, the average age is “relatively high” compared to the district average.

The commander further reported that there were now signs of life from the new commercial vehicle.
The chassis was actually supposed to be delivered in December, but there were delays.
The chassis is now scheduled to be delivered to the body manufacturer in March.
Hopefully new clothing for respiratory protection wearers will come soon
There are also delays when purchasing firefighting clothing.
The commander explained that the equipment is over 20 years old, no longer meets the requirements and will be replaced in the next three years.
The first part of the clothing for those wearing breathing apparatus should have arrived in December; the new date is February.
“The solidarity here in the club is phenomenal – hats off,” commented district fire officer Erich Zengerle on the annual report.
He himself felt “almost at home” in the Benediktbeuren fire station, he said, referring to the numerous hours of operation surrounding the storm: “I have never spent so much time in any other fire station in the last year.”
Seller: “You are one unit”
Vice Mayor Hanns-Frank Seller found that the board had carried out its tasks with a dynamic and sovereignty that was second to none: “You can tell that you are not only friends, but also a unit.” Apart from the storm, it was “a bearish one Year”, one event replaced the next.
The community has “a strong asset” in its hands with the fire department: “Without the fire department, a challenge like the hailstorm would not have been able to be overcome.
We are a community of solidarity.
It turned out that the village is still alive.”
