The Volksfestplatz has been the scene of gigantic rallies twice in the past few months - the heating demonstration in June 2023 and the farmers' protest at the beginning of January.

Several thousand demonstrators are expected again this Sunday.

Erding - The major rally against the right, right-wing extremism and anti-constitutional efforts begins at 2 p.m.

The focus is not least on the AfD after the mysterious meeting in Potsdam, at which the deportation of thousands of people with a migrant background was discussed.

The organizer is the civil alliance “Colourful instead of brown”.

The event is part of a nationwide series of anti-right-wing rallies in which several hundred thousand citizens have recently taken part.

And obviously with success: Since then, the AfD's popularity with voters has fallen significantly; it is currently no longer above 20 percent in the polls.

The initiators of the demo wrote in a call distributed on Wednesday: “We fully support our democracy, cosmopolitanism, diversity and mutual support.

We don't want to be there against each other, but for each other.

This is what our speakers from various areas of politics and social engagement stand for.” One is certain “that an overwhelming majority supports the protection of human rights and shares with us what is perhaps the most important sentence in our constitution: human dignity is inviolable .

This must remain valid forever.

That’s why we want to take to the streets.”

Several speakers are expected: Mayor Max Gotz, “Stolperstein” co-initiator Konrad Thees, Petra Bauernfeind, Second Mayor and chairwoman of the Neighborhood Aid and the Tafel, city priest Martin Garmaier, VdK district manager Zeynep Gencer and the soccer referee Benedikt Klingbeil.

The moderator is Georg Bauernfeind, also one of the Stolperstein initiators in Erding.

The chair of the meeting is Ulla Dieckmann, board member of “Colourful instead of brown”.

A circus also performs at the festival site on Sundays.

That's why the organizers urgently ask you not to come by car.

There is sufficient parking space at the Kronthaler Weiher.

From there a – short – footpath leads through the allotment garden to the festival site.

Police and the city's public order office will be present in large numbers to protect the rally.

The organizers also provide numerous folders.

Dieckmann is hoping for active participation on Sunday.

“We are also happy about flags and creative banners,” she explains, but political badges from parties, for example, are not welcome.
