While non-compliance with the Egalim law - aimed at protecting farmers' remuneration - is among the main grievances of farmers, the government is trying to show goodwill.
“All the largest supermarket chains will be controlled in the coming days, without exception”
, announced this Thursday the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire during a press conference to respond to agricultural anger.
“More than 500 contracts with their main suppliers will be controlled,”
added the tenant of Bercy, who spoke after Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.
And Bruno Le Maire added that
“these controls will also concern the contracts of distributor brands”.
Manufacturers will not be left out, since they will also be controlled by the Fraud Repression Department (DGCCRF).
“250 checks are already planned
,” said Bruno Le Maire, who indicated that
“four pre-injunction procedures”
had been launched on Tuesday.
“These controls will apply to European purchasing centers
,” the Minister of the Economy also said.
Furthermore, he announced
“more than 10,000 checks on the French origin of products”
with sanctions which could
“reach 10% of the turnover of manufacturers or distributors who have committed fraud”
.
