It's not just small or big cities that have their charm on travelers.

There are many beautiful villages in Germany that also invite you to take a trip.

1 / 10In the middle of the Elz Valley is the picturesque village of Monreal: the picturesque half-timbered houses have been lovingly restored and are a sign of the prosperity that the place enjoyed in the 17th century through its cloth production.

Two beautiful excursion destinations in the eastern Eifel, the Löwenburg and the Philippsburg, tower above Monreal.

2 / 10The resort town of Assinghausen enchants with its black and white half-timbered houses and the slate roofs typical of the Sauerland.

But that's just one aspect of the tranquil place: a trip is particularly worthwhile from May to September, because the residents have transformed their place into an impressive rose garden.

More than 200 varieties of roses ensure that the hearts of visitors swell.

3 / 10The town of Tüchersfeld in Franconian Switzerland is characterized by the imposing rock castle that towers over it.

The rock is a remnant of a reef that grew in a tropical sea during the Jurassic period.

In the village you can marvel at picturesque half-timbered houses and directly below the steep cliffs is the Franconian Switzerland Museum in the so-called Judenhof, a well-known ensemble of buildings.

4 / 10 Switching off from everyday life is the order of the day here: thanks to its picturesque location between breathtaking mountains, mystical forests and idyllic lakes, the community of Ramsau near Berchtesgaden is a true oasis for nature lovers.

There are numerous excursion destinations in the area, such as the Wimbachklamm or the parish church of St. Sebastian, which are just waiting to be discovered.

Due to its deep connection to the surrounding mountains, Ramsau has been considered Bavaria's first mountaineering village since 2015.

5 / 10The village of Hülchrath is only about 17 kilometers from Düsseldorf.

The highlight of the village is the castle of the same name, which is surrounded by a moat.

The tower is particularly worth seeing, as it looks as if it had come out of a fairy tale.

But the town center with its historic buildings, the former synagogue and the parish church are also worth a visit.

6 / 10The artist village of Worpswede is about 30 kilometers from Bremen.

At the end of the 19th century it became the home of many artists, including Heinrich Vogeler and Paula Modersohn-Becker.

Six museums take you through the art history of the place from the founding generation to the present day.

The place is also located in the Teufelsmoor cultural region, which offers many opportunities for hiking and cycling.

7 / 10The tranquil village of Sieseby is located on the Schlei, a 40 kilometer long arm of the Baltic Sea.

It is characterized primarily by its white, listed thatched roof houses.

Day-trippers can explore the region by bike or on foot.

You can also take the Schlei steamer, which allows you to explore the beautiful landscape of the Schlei via the waterway.

8 / 10The village of Bremm in Rhineland-Palatinate is also beautifully located: the wine and holiday resort is nestled on one of the most beautiful Moselle loops in the Calmont region and is a great excursion destination with its historic half-timbered houses, narrow streets and baroque church.

If you want to explore the area on foot, you will find the Stuben monastery ruins on a peninsula.

9 / 10The village of Oybin lies at the foot of the mountain of the same name in the Zittau Mountains Nature Park at the southeasternmost tip of Saxony.

Not only hiking and climbing fans will get their money's worth thanks to the extensive network of hiking trails in the area; visitors should also pay special attention to the baroque mountain church and the ruins of the castle and monastery complex.

10 / 10The historic village of Lehde in the Spreewald is one of the most original.

The poet and author Theodor Fontane described it as “the pocket-sized lagoon city, a Venice as it might have been 1,500 years ago…”.

For a long time, one of the most important means of transport was the Spreewald barge; it was only since 1929 that the village could also be reached by land.

Anyone visiting Lehde should definitely take a trip on the traditional boat.

Also worth seeing is the open-air museum, which offers an insight into the way of life of the Spreewald residents in the 19th century.
