Hamburg Airport reacted with displeasure to the announcement of a new warning strike on Friday.
“We are stunned that Verdi is following strike after strike,” a spokeswoman for Germany’s fifth-largest airport told the dpa on Thursday.
“While the Verdi strike among aviation security staff is still ongoing, the union among ground transport services is calling for the next work stoppage.”
Hamburg - This strike affects Hamburg families, as many wanted to use the school-free report day on Friday to go on a trip.
“It is particularly frightening that Verdi is announcing a day-long warning strike at such short notice - that is completely disproportionate.” Those affected by the strike, whose flights were rebooked for Friday, “may have to stay on the ground again.
The impact of the new Verdi warning strike at Hamburg Airport will probably not be announced until late in the afternoon, said the spokeswoman.
The Verdi union has called for another warning strike at Hamburg airport on Friday.
This time, ground handling service providers should stop work from 3 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., the union announced on Thursday.
Due to a warning strike by aviation security forces, all departures and around 40 arrivals will be canceled on Thursday.
According to Verdi, the service providers Groundstars, Stars and Cats are affected.
According to the union, their employees are responsible, among other things, for loading and unloading aircraft, providing technical equipment, pushing the aircraft back, baggage handling, aircraft de-icing and cleaning the interior of the machines.
