Burglary, rape, but no murder: The defendant in the trial surrounding the death of a girl in a children's home confesses - with one exception.

Hof/Wunsiedel – A man is on trial after he was accused of sexually abusing a ten-year-old girl in a children's home in Upper Franconia, who later died violently.

At the opening of the trial at the Hof Regional Court on Thursday, February 1st, the now 26-year-old admitted the offenses he was accused of, as his lawyer read out in a statement.

26-year-old broke into a children's home - and raped ten-year-olds

The 26-year-old is not charged with the girl's murder.

Instead, investigators believe that an eleven-year-old boy killed the girl.

However, the boy cannot be held criminally responsible due to his age.

In his statement, the accused German explained that on the night of April 4, 2023, he entered the children's home in Wunsiedel through an open window in order to steal valuables.

Since he had previously lived in this home himself, he was familiar with the rooms.

In the home he was discovered by a boy who asked him to show him how to satisfy himself.

He did this.

The boy later took the girl out of the home and pushed her onto a bed in a room.

In his lawyer's statement, the defendant admitted that he had subsequently raped the girl.

He then left the children's home immediately.

He never wanted the girl's death and did not incite the boy to do so.

The next morning the girl is dead - was it the eleven year old?

The next morning the girl was found dead in a bed at the children's home.

Police investigations revealed that the then 11-year-old boy allegedly killed the girl after an argument that followed the incident that night.

Because of his age, he cannot be prosecuted.

The public prosecutor's office also accuses the accused 26-year-old of five burglaries between May 2022 and April 2023.

The German is said to have stolen, among other things, construction machinery worth around 16,000 euros.

In one case he is said to have set a fire to cover his tracks.

Except for the arson, the man also fully admitted these allegations.

According to his lawyer, the defendant does not want to make any further statements for the time being.

The parents of the girl who was killed and the then eleven-year-old boy are co-plaintiffs in the trial.
