Impressionist painting according to a woman will be the protagonist of an exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa next autumn dedicated to the French painter Berthe Morisot, organized in collaboration with the city of Nice and included in the official program of celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Impressionism.
The new director of the Palazzo Ducale Foundation for Culture Ilaria Bonacossa announced this by presenting herself in public in a meeting in the Salone del Maggior Consiglio.
She was welcomed by the president of the Beppe Costa Foundation, the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti and the mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci.
"It is not obvious to be in the international list of official exhibitions of Impressionism, - remarks Bonacossa - as you can imagine, there are many requests all over the world, Berthe Morisot was a painter who to all intents and purposes worked with the Impressionists, she exhibited at their official exhibitions, a painter who married Manet's brother, who in some way can be considered the father of Impressionism. It will be an important exhibition because it will bring unpublished works, some letters that have never been published and works from private collections " " Morisot was a very serious painter, but since she was a lady she didn't need to sell to make ends meet, so most of her works at the time ended up in the homes of friends or relatives, - explains the new director of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa - few they ended up in institutions. It will be a great opportunity to shed light on the female impressionist artists that art history has somewhat overlooked."
From next spring to summer Palazzo Ducale will host a large exhibition entitled 'Nostalgia', completely self-produced with works never exhibited in public from different countries around the world.
