Italy had a stockpile of over 1,200billion euros of uncollected taxes at the end of 2023, ErnestoMaria Ruffini, the director of the Agenzia delle Entrate inlandrevenue agency, said on Thursday.
Ruffini told an event organized by financial daily Il Sole 24Ore that the total stemmed from 163 cases of tax disputes, debt notices, and enforceable assessment notices.
"It's an imposing mass" he said, adding that "a large part of this amount is not recoverable".
