After 19 years at the “Tagesschau”, Judith Rakers moderated her last edition of the news program on Wednesday evening (January 31st).

She was then quietly bid farewell.

Hamburg - Since 2005 and for almost 20 years, Judith Rakers (48) has been the spokeswoman for the “Tagesschau”, whose main 8 p.m. edition she moderated for the first time on March 18, 2008.

In mid-January she surprisingly announced that she wanted to leave the news program at the end of the current month.

On Wednesday evening, Rakers was given a warm farewell, although the ARD viewers didn't see much of it.

Judith Rakers' last “Tagesschau” broadcast: At the end there are flowers from Jens Riewa

As usual, Judith Rakers moderated the ARD news program from 8:00 p.m. and then, as usual, led with contributions on domestic and non-political topics, including Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Bundestag and a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.

At 8:15 p.m., after the weather, the moment of farewell followed.

As previously announced, she celebrated it quite briefly and soberly: “And now, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to say goodbye very discreetly, because this is my last 'Tagesschau' broadcast today.

Thank you for letting me into your living room again and again over the last 19 years, and thank you to the best colleagues in the world.

Have a nice evening.

Bye!"

At the end of the broadcast, the ARD viewers saw how “Tagesschau” chief spokesman Jens Riewa (60) rushed over, pressed a bouquet of flowers into his valued colleagues’ hands and said goodbye to her with a warm hug in the presence of the rest of the editorial team.

However, how and whether the celebration continued afterwards remained hidden: the news program ended during the farewell scene, then the television continued seamlessly with the television film “Iceland”.
