Premier Giorgia Meloni was a "leadplayer" in the mediation with Hungarian Prime Minister ViktorOrban that led to Budapest dropping its veto against an EU package of 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine, making an agreement among the 27 member States possible, the premier's office said on Thursday.
The sources expressed "great satisfaction" at the agreement reached at the extraordinary EU summit with a unanimous vote that not been expected beforehand.
Meloni had face-to-face talks with Orban twice before the start of the summit, with a meeting during the night and another early on Thursday, sources said.
