In the Rottach multi-generational house, Caritas wants to give space to civic engagement.

A network meeting took place recently.

Rottach-Egern

– The Caritas Multi-Generation House (MGH) in Rottach-Egern literally wants to give more space to civic engagement.

With this in mind, Caritas district manager Petra Schubert invited people to the first network meeting at the MGH on Leo-Slezak-Straße.

She also led the visitors through the recently rented and newly renovated rooms on the upper floor.

As reported, the MGH has almost doubled its space as a result of the expansion.

Groups can use rooms for a donation

This gives the Caritas house new opportunities.

But there is no plan to fill the additional space with our own events.

“We want to form an umbrella for our network partners and other volunteers,” explains Schubert.

This means: Groups can use MGH rooms for meetings and events.

There are no fixed rental conditions.

“We want to be an open house,” says Schubert.

Groups are allowed to use the rooms for a donation.

“We assume that those who can give more will give more,” says Schubert.

MGH should be a place for all generations

Part of the strategy is to truly make the MGH a place for all generations.

Currently it is mainly seniors who come together there.

The MGH doesn’t want to lose these visitors either.

But younger people should be added.

To achieve this, Schubert relies on networking.

The first meeting was attended by representatives of the communities and the church, the Coordinating Child Protection Agency KoKi, school social work, Inner Wheel as well as representatives for senior citizens and youth.

“A broad group,” said Schubert with satisfaction.

The aim is to strengthen the cooperation of the existing groups.

“In the form of good neighborhood development,” explained Schubert.

It is important to pool civic engagement in the Tegernsee Valley and work on issues together, across all generations.

Next meeting expected in spring

“It was about exchanging ideas and getting to know each other,” said Schubert, who is satisfied with the success of the first meeting.

Many connecting points were found.

The topic for the next meeting, probably in late spring, has already been set: mobility.

“This issue has not yet been well resolved here,” says Schubert.

Mobility is a prerequisite for participation.

How well offers are used depends very much on how mobile people are even without a car.

There are no concrete proposals to improve mobility yet, says Schubert: “But we are thinking about it together.”

The new rooms, all for small groups, are not yet furnished.

In one there is a donated piano.

The first registrations have been received and a choir is taking part.

“It’s starting slowly,” says Schubert.

She hopes that through the young generation manager Lena Wörle, young groups will also become anchored in the MGH.

They should have the opportunity to design their own space.

“That’s why we’re not finishing everything now,” explains Schubert.

Volunteers are the mainstay

In addition to opening up to the outside, the MGH team also cares about strengthening the structure that holds the facility together inside.

That's why a strategy process with the volunteers is planned.

“They are the mainstay in our house,” says Schubert.

The MGH wants to strengthen those already working and, if possible, recruit additional volunteers from all age groups.
