Mayor Sander and Deputy District Administrator Nadler shake hands in a conciliatory manner at the New Year's reception.

The argument seems forgotten.

Taufkirchen – A queue formed in front of the doors of the culture and congress center in Taufkirchen.

Volunteers, community members and politicians lined up to shake the hand of Mayor Ullrich Sander (non-party).

Deputy District Administrator Christoph Nadler (Greens) also wished Sander a happy new year.

The rift between the two seems to have been forgotten.

Sander initially did not invite Nadler because of an argument.

During the speech, he gave a conciliatory greeting: “Unfortunately, our district administrator couldn’t come, but he is well represented by someone from Taufkirch.” It wasn’t the only attempt at mediation that evening.

Sander welcomes demonstrations by citizens

Sander slowly made his way through the past year.

He remembered the deceased Taufkirchen residents and praised the commitment of the volunteers in Taufkirchen.

“Without them, nothing works in Germany,” he said, receiving applause.

Then things got more tricky.

The farmers are demonstrating because they are dissatisfied with the traffic light policy.

The Taufkirchen farmers also went to the farmers' protests and held a bonfire.

“I think it’s good that German citizens are standing together and demonstrating,” said Sander.

“But I’m also glad that things aren’t as bad here as in France.” Citizens should say what bothers them.

But for Sander there is a limit: “If the AfD is thrown into the same pot as the Union, that is outrageous.” Not every protest is extremist-controlled.

“In the last few weeks, 100,000 people took to the streets to fight right-wing extremism.”

There are also “small-scale protests” in Taufkirchen

The “small-scale protest” also exists in Taufkirchen: the anger of some Taufkirchen residents about the planned refugee accommodation on the former tennis courts.

But Sander remains firm: the location is the best option.

What bothers the mayor is the attitude that refugee accommodation can be “anywhere, just not on your own doorstep.”

He also wonders why people don't demonstrate against the lack of daycare space or expensive housing.

Sander also discussed economic development.

“I appreciate that we work together with Ottobrunn across borders.” Together, the communities created a development plan for “Germany’s largest aviation center in the south,” which will be expanded in the coming years.

One challenge is the enormous financial burden for building the new middle school.

The primary school, which has finally been completed, will have a facade at some point.

Taufkirchen's currently largest project did not go unmentioned: the twelve-hectare area in the Linden and Ash Passage.

“The district at the train station will be a lively center of Taufkirchen,” he said.

Sander is not worried about how the reduced trade tax rate could affect the municipality's financial situation.

On the contrary: “We are making Taufkirchen even more attractive for companies.”

Getting into conversation together was a success at the New Year's reception in Taufkirchen.
