Some people are probably waiting in vain these days for the package they might be longing for because a UPS delivery truck burst into flames on the A 8 on Wednesday evening.

The fire also destroyed all the packages.

Odelzhausen – The 43-year-old driver escaped with horror.

The man was traveling between the Odelzhausen and Adelzhausen junctions around 5:50 p.m. and was able to park the vehicle on the hard shoulder at the level of Adelzhauser Berg and leave in time.

According to the police, the cause of the fire is an as yet unexplained technical defect.

When the fire brigade arrived, the van was already fully engulfed in flames.

The packages loaded in the vehicle repeatedly caught fire, which made extinguishing work difficult.

During the extinguishing work, which was carried out under heavy respiratory protection, the motorway in the direction of Stuttgart was completely closed for around 40 minutes.

There was a kilometer-long backlog during rush hour traffic.

In the end, all that was left of the brown delivery vehicle was a steaming metal frame and it burned out completely.

The road surface was also damaged.

According to the Fürstenfeldbruck traffic police station, the amount of total damage cannot yet be estimated.

The fire departments from Odelzhausen, Sulzemoos, Wiedenzhausen, Adelzhausen, Pfaffenhofen and Feldgeding were on duty.
