A total of 154,279 vehicles are registered in the Weilheim-Schongau district. Just 3,988 vehicles are on the road with an E license plate, including 3,030 purely electric vehicles. The admission statistics for 2023 are available.

Inflation and general uncertainty caused a slight decline in new registrations, and electric vehicles were unable to really increase their market share.

District

- 5,376 new registrations show the statistics that the district office transmitted at the request of the local newspaper - from motorcycles to truck tractors.

That is 203 new registrations fewer than in 2022.

947 of the vehicles newly registered last year had an E license plate - 281 or almost a third fewer than the year before.

839 of these were purely electric vehicles, the others were probably so-called plug-in hybrids, in which a battery that is smaller than pure electric cars is combined with a normal combustion engine.

The decline in new registrations of electric vehicles can be explained by the fact that the subsidy for electric cars was significantly reduced last year before it was surprisingly stopped completely early at the end of the year.

There was no longer any federal funding for plug-in hybrids in 2023.

Significantly fewer new special vehicles than in 2022

A total of 3,736 cars were newly registered in the Weilheim-Schongau district last year, 1,721 of them commercially, i.e. for companies.

There was a sharp decline at a low level in the registration of so-called special vehicles - these are, for example, fire engines or rescue vehicles.

While there were 36 newly registered in 2022, the statistics for 2023 show just 16 new registrations in this area.

Meanwhile, the number of trucks (362) and tractors (150) that hit the roads last year remained stable.

Here the number of approvals fell only marginally.

There are also hardly any changes when it comes to motorcycles: While there were 513 new bikes that received a license plate for the first time in 2022, the statistics for 2023 show a total of 491 new registrations in this area.

It is also not surprising that in a rural area such as the Weilheim-Schongau district, the number of new trailers purchased remains stable.

While there were 579 in 2022, 550 were newly registered the following year.

The trend towards camping trailers, which emerged in the Corona years, will apparently continue even after the pandemic is over.

54 caravans were newly registered in the Weilheim-Schongau district in 2023 – one more than in the previous year.

There were also six new buses (2022: 5) and eleven semi-trailers (2022: 18).

Most vehicles on the roads are more than ten years old

Last year, a total of 15,359 vehicles were deregistered in the district.

However, this number is not particularly meaningful, as not all of these vehicles were previously registered in the district.

A total of 154,279 vehicles are registered in the Weilheim-Schongau district.

If you take a population of 138,800 as a basis, then statistically every resident of the district - from babies to old people - has more than one vehicle.

There are also some interesting insights to be gained from the vehicle population.

This makes it clear that electromobility is still miles away from widespread use.

A total of just 3,988 vehicles are on the road with an E license plate, including 3,030 purely electric vehicles.

The rest are plugin hybrids.

This means that there are not that many more electric cars in the district than classic cars.

Here the statistics show a population of 2,444.

In general, the vehicle population in the Weilheim-Schongau district is significantly older than one would think.

16,720 vehicles are less than three years old.

51,366 are four to ten years old.

The majority of vehicles on the district's roads - at least 86,193 - are even older than ten years, as the district office's registration statistics show.
