This was one of the major criticisms expressed to the socialist mayors of Saint-Denis and Pierrefitte when they announced their surprise merger project on April 4, 2023: the process, thought out on the sly, had never been thought through with the residents… This Saturday, almost ten months later, Mathieu Hanotin (PS) and Michel Fourcade (PS) invite the population to “celebrate the launch of the consultation (…) around a friendly drink”.
In Pierrefitte, the meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Maurice-Utrillo cultural space.
In Saint-Denis, residents are invited at 3 p.m. to the wedding hall of the town hall.
While a website dedicated to the creation of this new municipality, which should see the light of day at the beginning of 2025, has just been created (demain-commune.fr), the two municipalities indicate that they recruited “ambassadors” in January. (…) to engage alongside the two cities in this transition.”
“Their mission: to think together about the identity and future of the new commune, to show the project around them and in their neighborhood, and to ensure that the population's questions about the project can be answered », They specify.
Between February and June, “five meeting times” will be organized in several neighborhoods.
A “closing party” of the consultation will take place in June.
Since the announcement of this upcoming merger, the oppositions of the two cities (left and right) have demanded a referendum or even the abandonment of the file before the next municipal elections, scheduled for 2026. Two amendments to this effect were tabled on April 20, during the vote confirming the launch of the project in municipal council in the two cities.
Both texts were rejected.
