Ilaria Salis, a 39-year-old anti-fascist on trial in Budapest for allegedly attacking two-Nazis last February, was definitively convicted in July for resisting arrest, the rightwing League party said Thursday reiterating its criticism of her actions and asking whether it was OK for an elementary school teacher like her to be caught with a bludgeon.
In a statement, the League said it "noted with curiosity Salis's father's decision to sue League leader Matteo Salvini for defamation".
It voiced the hope that she would be found innocent, "unlike onJuly 3 2023 with a sentence conformed by the (supreme court of) Cassation for moral complicity in resisting an officer".
It added: "Of course, there remains the question: is it normal for an elementary school teacher to be stopped in a European capital with a bludgeon".
