  • This news ticker is constantly updated.

Update, 4:43 p.m.:

In the

Upper Palatinate

, in the Schwandorf area on the A93, the farmers' protest continued until around 6 p.m., the police said.

The remaining meetings in the Upper Palatinate have been ended.

In total there were 42, in which around 400 people took part with around 300 agricultural vehicles.

Officers from the

Upper Bavaria South

Police Headquarters counted around 20 gatherings with around 750 participants.

For the most part, the protesters adhered to the requirements and restrictions, according to the police.

The officials from Upper Franconia

also report this

: At the end of the meetings, the Upper Franconian police counted a total of around 450 participants in around 400 tractors.

Update, 3:13 p.m.:

The farmers' protest was announced by 3 p.m.

Not all participants have finished their activities yet; in the Amberg area, for example, actions are still underway.

This is reported by a spokeswoman for the

Upper Palatinate

police - "but the majority of it has ended." A spokesman for the

Upper Bavaria South

police agrees: Individual participants in the meeting are still on site - but otherwise everything went peacefully and as expected.

Update, 12.55 p.m.:

Farmers and other participants are also drawing attention to the protest actions around the motorway entrances in the Free State on social platforms.

On X (formerly Twitter) several users posted a video that was made at the Helmstadt/Würzburg junction.

You can see how a number of tractors are blocking the access.

Update, 12.15 p.m.:

Despite the largely peaceful protests by farmers in Bavaria, a more serious situation has arisen in Upper Franconia near Gefrees on the A9, which has not been approved by the authorities.

As the police report, farmers and hauliers with tractors, trucks, vans, pick-ups and tractors caused a kilometer-long traffic jam on the A9 by driving slowly and sometimes across all lanes, side by side.

According to previous investigations, around 60 of the 75 vehicles were not even allowed to drive on the motorway due to their design.

Fortunately, the “extremely dangerous action” did not lead to any accidents, according to the police spokeswoman.

The 75 participants are now being investigated on suspicion of coercion and dangerous interference with road traffic.

Judging by the police, the people were on their way to a demonstration in Bayreuth called for by the regional association of Bavarian transport and logistics companies.

Police headquarters in Bavaria are mostly satisfied with how the protests have gone so far

Update, 11:25 a.m.:

At the request of our editorial team, the police headquarters in the Free State provided initial information about the nationwide protests.

According to a spokesman for the Presidium in

Middle Franconia

, the situation there still looks relaxed.

“Almost all of our motorways are affected,” says the spokesman, “but there are no major traffic jam problems at the blocked entrances.” Because the entrances are only temporarily blocked, the whole thing always resolves quite quickly.

In

Lower Bavaria,

a spokeswoman for the police headquarters also confirms this situation: “So far everything has been very calm and peaceful and the meeting participants have also shown themselves to be cooperative with us.” The Lower Bavaria police headquarters is currently busy taking stock of the situation, so that over the course of the day first figures for the protest can be given.

In the southwestern part

of Swabia,

the situation has also appeared to be relaxed so far.

“As of 10:55 a.m., we have isolated events at the junctions and therefore minor to moderate traffic disruptions,” said the spokesman when asked by our editorial team.

In the

Upper Palatinate

, the police headquarters counted a total of 34 events with around 300 participants.

So far everything has been going peacefully and largely without any problems, according to the speakers.

Near Randersacker (Würzburg district), there were minor traffic disruptions as a result of farmers' protests.

Some tractors temporarily blocked access to the A3 in the direction of Nuremberg and Kassel.

The situation is similar in the catchment area of the Upper Bavaria South

police

: “There are sometimes traffic disruptions at the meeting locations, but otherwise there are no special features,” says the spokesman on the phone.

So far everything is going smoothly.

A total of 22 meetings were counted in the area of responsibility, including around 500 participants with 400 vehicles.

However, more than 300 police officers are still on duty to take good care of the situation.

Traffic conditions were largely relaxed even after the protests began

Update, 10:50 a.m.:

The situation with farmers' protests in the Free State is still manageable.

In Google Maps the traffic situation is still displayed as largely fluid.

No major traffic disruptions were reported by the police either.

The farmers only took turns blocking the entrances to Hof and Weiden on individual driveways such as the A93 near Falkenberg (Tirschenreuth district) or the A3 near Passau.

It was similar at the Mitterteich Nord junction.

Only individual blockages, such as in Buttheim (Bamberg district), lead to major backlogs.

The protests are taking place at the entrances to Oberölsbach, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz as well as Neumarkt-Ost, Velburg and Parsberg.

According to the police spokeswoman, the gatherings have so far been very peaceful.

The police did not provide any further details for the time being.

Update, 7 a.m.:

Unlike in other districts, people in the Bad Tölz/Wolfratshausen district do not have to expect severe disruption from farmers' protests.

As it became known, the district office severely restricted the protest.

Only the B11a is allowed to go on strike, in addition to a rally in a parking lot not far from the access to the A95.

Update, January 31st, 6:40 a.m.:

It is currently still quiet on Bavaria's streets.

According to the organizer, the Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV), the announced farmers' protests at numerous motorway entrances in the Free State will not begin until around 8.30 a.m.

In addition to many access roads to motorways in the Munich area, Franconia in particular is said to be severely affected by the protests.

In addition to the access routes mentioned (see list below), blockages are also expected on those to the A7, A70, A71, A72 and A73.

First report from January 30th, 7:47 p.m.:

Many farmers are dissatisfied with the traffic light government's austerity policy, and they show it too: On Wednesday, January 31st, numerous farmers nationwide want to block important access roads to highways with their tractors.

The Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV) and the association “Agriculture connects Bavaria” have also announced numerous campaigns in the Free State.

Rallies are planned on 18 driveways in the Munich district alone.

Traffic chaos is expected in many places.

According to initial information, the protest will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During this time, the farmers will intermittently block the highway entrances.

However, the farmers say they want to keep the exits free.

Planned motorway blockades throughout Bavaria

The reason for the protest is the Berlin Traffic Light Coalition's plan to abolish subsidies for agricultural diesel.

At the beginning of the year, farmers nationwide protested against this plan for a whole week, from January 8th to 15th.

The government also planned to abolish the vehicle tax exemption for agricultural vehicles.

This has already been withdrawn by the coalition.

The government also expressed a compromise to gradually minimize agricultural diesel subsidies.

But this suggestion is not enough for the farmers so far.
