Experienced alpinists have seen these images hundreds of times.

Nevertheless, you continue to impress.

Can you recognize all ten legendary Alpine peaks?

1 / 10No mountain is better suited to start this list than Mont Blanc, at 4,810 meters the highest mountain in the Alps.

There is a cable car station at 3,843 meters on the Aiguille du Midi, from which visitors have an impressive view of what is, according to some definitions, the highest mountain in Europe.

To this day, France and Italy disagree about where the national border runs over the summit.

Italy also claims a share of the “Monte Bianco” summit for itself.

2 / 10 It is less than 100 kilometers as the crow flies from Mont Blanc to the next mountain, the 4,478 meter high Matterhorn in Switzerland.

The rocky pyramid peak is considered a landmark of Switzerland and is known worldwide.

The eighth highest mountain in the Alps was climbed for the first time in 1865, but four of the seven climbers had a fatal accident on the way down.

Every year 2,500 to 3,000 people try to conquer the summit.

On average, eight to ten of them have fatal accidents.

3 / 10Significantly more people reach the summit of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain at 2,962 meters.

This is mainly due to the cable car, which takes around 500,000 visitors to the summit every year.

Experienced alpine hikers with very good fitness can climb the Zugspitze in one day using various routes, even without a cable car.

4 / 10The second German mountain on this list is the Watzmann, at 2,713 meters one of the three highest main peaks in Germany.

Its crossing is popular among hikers who enjoy climbing and is well attended on nice days.

The smaller peak on the left is also known as the “wife” of the Watzmann.

The five independent peaks in between are often referred to as their “children”.

5 / 10It's not particularly far from the Watzmann to Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner at 3,798 meters.

It can be seen particularly well from the Großglockner High Alpine Road, Austria's highest paved pass road.

6 / 10Austria's second mountain on this list is also the second highest mountain in the country: the Ötztaler Wildspitze at 3,768 meters.

At only 30 meters less than the Großglockner, it is also very high for the Eastern Alps and is a popular destination for mountaineers.

What's special is their celebrity.

You have to descend over 2,200 meters to reach the next higher mountain.

Only three other mountains in the Alps are more prominent (Mont Blanc, Großglockner and Finsteraarhorn).

7 / 10If you drive south over the Reschen Pass past the Wildspitze, you end up in South Tyrol and therefore in Italy.

A particularly legendary Italian Alpine mountain is the Marmolada, at 3,343 meters the highest mountain in the Dolomites.

She is also known as the “Queen of the Dolomites”.

8 / 10The second Dolomite mountain on this list, at 2,999 meters, is smaller than the Marmolada, but is undoubtedly a legendary mountain in the Alps.

The Three Peaks on the border with South Tyrol are a world-famous photo opportunity and one of the most sought-after summit destinations in the Alps.

Its steep north walls are particularly impressive.

The largest north wall is that of the middle pinnacle, which drops vertically or overhanging over 500 meters.

9 / 10If you talk about north faces, you also have to talk about the Eiger north face, the highest and by far the most famous north face in the Alps.

It towers over 1,800 meters southwest over Grindelwald.

Their numerous and sometimes highly dramatic attempts to climb the 3,967 meter high Eiger have made them legendary.

10 / 10The last mountain on this list is the second highest mountain in the Alps, Monta Rosa at 4,634 meters high.

The border between Italy and Switzerland runs across its summit.

That's why Monte Rosa in Switzerland has a different name and is called Dufourspitze.

At 2,400 meters high, the east face of the massif is even higher than the north face of the Eiger and the highest rock face in the entire Alps.
