Three questions for Pliening's mayor Roland Frick

What projects are your priority in the current year?

The projects that have been started are important, such as the two apartment buildings in Landsham with 16 apartments, which should be completed in the summer.

Then the old school with six apartments, including homeless rooms and the rooms for the theater and local community (until March).

Our biggest project is the core renovation of the elementary school.

We have to start planning here this year because all-day school must be introduced mandatory from 2026.

We are now building the senior housing complex with 33 affordable apartments in the middle of the village.

What is important for me and also for the parents is childcare with kindergarten and crèche as well as after-school care including lunchtime care.

We currently have 28 first grade children staying in Parsdorf and I would like to bring them back.

However, this still needs to be clarified with the provider once the figures are available.

What support would you like from the district regarding district levy, refugees and asylum seekers?

In 2015, we were the only municipality to provide a property with an air dome.

We now have more refugees than eight years ago.

The district and municipalities must bear this burden.

In the spirit of solidarity, you want to support, but if you have nothing, it becomes difficult.

Under no circumstances may the gymnasiums be reactivated as accommodation, as was the case in 2015/16.

Here I support District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß in his efforts.

I don't understand why the state and federal authorities don't release their own properties.

Some of us were accommodated in private apartments that the district office rented.

If necessary, I can intervene if there are any problems - but so far there have been none from the community.

It is clear that the district levy depends on the size of the community - small ones pay less, large ones pay even more.

It is difficult when our municipality pays the entire trade tax revenue to the district.

At around 4.5 million euros, that's a lot.

We also have to finance our expenses.

The district does have enough expenses that benefit the municipalities - e.g.

E.g. public transport or secondary schools.

The district levy was stable for a long time, but due to the increased tax capacity, the municipalities have to pay more every year.

I'm looking forward to the fall to see what costs we will incur.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?

My greatest wish is health - for my family, for myself and everyone I know.

Wish the wars – Ukraine and Gaza – end.

The craziness in the world has to stop.

It's getting worse and more unreliable.

The disunity in the EU, one of the largest peace projects, is also beginning to falter.

I wish we talked to each other more than about each other.

We have to stick together and we don't need the edges on the left and right - instead we need a sensible democratic middle class.
