The son of the Israeli consul in Miami is accused of intentionally running over a police officer in Florida because he "hates waiting in traffic," but his lawyer says the charges against him may be dropped because of his father's immunity.
Avraham Gil, the 19-year-old son of Consul Eli Gil, was arrested on Tuesday on an island off the coast of Miami, after, according to the police, he refused to stop for a policeman's traffic check and continued to ride a motorcycle "with the intention of running him over."
According to local reports, the policeman injured his leg, but managed to get Gil off his motorcycle and knocked him to the ground.

According to the documents submitted to the court, Gil was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and resisting a police officer with violence.
The boy's lawyers claim that the charges against him should be dropped due to his father's diplomatic immunity.
However, it is not certain that the court will accept this argument, because the regulations regarding the immunity of foreign mission personnel do not necessarily apply to junior diplomats such as consuls.
After his arrest, the boy - who has already been in trouble with law enforcement authorities in recent weeks due to similar traffic offenses - was recorded bitterly crying in his arrest photo.
However, according to the New York Post, he showed no emotion during his first court appearance.
The hearing in his case is set for February 26.
