In North Rhine-Westphalia, only the local transport companies in the individual cities and districts are affected by the public transport strike.

Deutsche Bahn is not on strike.

Therefore, the S-Bahn, regional trains and DB regional trains will run as usual on Friday.

For example, commuters in the Cologne area can use Cologne S-Bahn lines to get to work.

Other rail companies, such as National Express and the Middle Rhine Railway, are also not affected by the public transport strike.

This means that trains such as the RE1 or the RB26 also run according to plan.

Despite the strike, there are alternatives for commuters in and around Cologne.

These include, for example, the following S-Bahn:

Warning strike in public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia: mobility guarantee does not apply

During the strike, commuters in North Rhine-Westphalia also have to observe changes to passenger rights.

In Cologne, the KVB ensured clarity in advance.

“The KVB also points out that the company’s mobility guarantee does not apply in the event of a strike,” the transport company announced on its website.

The situation is likely to be similar for the other transport companies in North Rhine-Westphalia affected by the strike.

Because the so-called “Mobility Guarantee NRW” does not apply in the event of a strike, explains the NRW consumer advice center.

For example, if you take a taxi to work, the costs will not be reimbursed.

Strike in public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia: That's why KVB, Rheinbahn and Co. are now on strike.

The reason for the planned warning strikes in North Rhine-Westphalia is the collective bargaining between the Verdi union and the municipal transport companies.

This is about better conditions for around 30,000 employees in North Rhine-Westphalia, which are regulated in the so-called collective collective agreement.

Verdi NRW is demanding, among other things, additional days off for employees.

“Since collective bargaining has now taken place in all federal states and has not produced any results, now is the time to put more pressure on employers,” said Vice-Chairwoman Christine Behle, explaining the strikes that are now planned.
