The unemployment rate in the Allgäu rose to 3.1 percent in January.
This worries the head of the Kempten-Memmingen employment agency.
Allgäu
– According to current information from the employment agency, the Allgäu labor market has taken a short “winter break”: The unemployment rate rose to 3.1 percent in January due to seasonal factors.
The head of the Kempten-Memmingen Employment Agency, Maria Amtmann, comments on this.
Increase in the unemployment rate in the Allgäu in January: Agency manager worried about current figures
Winter still has the Allgäu under control - despite the current spring-like weather: "Due to the season, the unemployment rate has climbed," explains Amtmann.
“On the one hand, this has to do with the time of year, as a result of which other weather-dependent companies have taken a seasonal break and laid off employees – mostly temporarily,” said the agency manager.
In the previous month, the unemployment rate in the region was 2.9 percent.
The end of the quarter or year 2023 also plays a role. Amtmann: “Many fixed-term contracts end at this point, and the affected employees must register as unemployed on January 1st.”
Last but not least, the employment agency explains, the “weak economy” also contributes to the situation.
“In fact, in recent years, more people in our region have only been unemployed during the pandemic in January 2021 - that of course worries us,” Amtmann continued.
Nevertheless, most of them are likely to be back in work soon, as skilled workers are known to be in high demand on the labor market.
