The USA is currently examining options to recognize a state of Palestine - including security guarantees for Israel.

Netanyahu in particular is reluctant.

Washington, DC - The US is apparently considering recognizing a Palestinian state after the war in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

This is reported by US media such as

Axios

, citing the State Department in Washington.

Top US diplomat Antony Blinken has commissioned the ministry to examine several relevant options.

For example, the USA could give up its veto in the UN Security Council in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state and seek further international support.

“Yes, we are actively seeking the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with real security guarantees for Israel,” said ministry spokesman Matthew Miller on Wednesday (January 31) in Washington.

Blinken also asked for suggestions on what a “demilitarized Palestinian state” might look like, the report said.

They want to examine how Israel's security can be guaranteed in a two-state solution.

Recognize the State of Palestine?

Ex-Trump adviser sees “betrayal of Israel”

The US had always insisted that a Palestinian state could only come about through direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which rules the West Bank.

Officially, the USA does not currently recognize a state of Palestine, unlike 138 of the other 192 member states of the United Nations.

Now, however, there seems to be a rethink in the US government in order to enable long-term peace.

However, Miller denies a reversal in US Middle East policy.

Jason Greenblatt, who advised then-President Donald Trump on Middle East issues and acted as an envoy for the region, was bitterly disappointed with the report: “This would be a big mistake, a betrayal of Israel and would make things much more complicated "To achieve something true that could benefit everyone," he wrote on X. "These efforts should be stopped immediately.

It will further embolden the intransigent Palestinian leadership in Ramallah and encourage Hamas and other terrorists to continue their bloody rampage.

Truly the definition of an 'absolutely terrible idea'."

Israel's government also currently rejects a two-state solution.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists that Israel must have long-term security control in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

“I will not compromise when it comes to full Israeli security control over the entire area west of the Jordan - and that is contradictory to a Palestinian state,” Netanyahu wrote on X.

Former Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar of Israel's New Hope party said a Palestinian state would "jeopardize" Israel's security and future.

“It will be a radical state, a base for Islamist terrorism and an alliance with the most extreme elements that will permanently destabilize the region.

“I am convinced that the United States, our best friend, will not allow such a dangerous step,” the

Jerusalem Post

quoted him as saying .

Negotiations between Israel and Hamas: Blinken travels to the Middle East again

Many countries in the Middle East require the creation of a Palestinian state in order to even establish diplomatic relations with Israel.

The USA sees Saudi Arabia in particular as Israel's future partner in the region should there be a state of Palestine and consequently a normalization agreement.

Great Britain's Foreign Minister David Cameron has also shown himself open to early recognition of a Palestinian state.

Such a move would help make a two-state solution an irreversible process, Cameron said on Tuesday (January 30).

It is necessary to show the Palestinians a “political horizon” in order to end the conflict with Israel.

Against the backdrop of the recent negotiations on the war between Israel and Hamas, Antony Blinken wants to set off on another trip to the Middle East.

The trip will take place “in the coming days,” government circles in Washington said on Wednesday.

Dates or travel stops were initially not given.
