There are also games that come back from the digital world to the analogue, such as the village game. A clear yes. Technically, more and more is possible. If the game is supported and complemented by two real people, then yes. But if on the other side it's not a person sitting on it, but a screen, then it's no longer an analog game.

The trend is towards board games.

The classic game evening is enjoying growing popularity again.

Expert Tom Werneck (84) from Haar explains why in an interview.

Haar/Nuremberg – The International Toy Fair in Nuremberg, into which the Games Inventors Fair is integrated, lasts until Saturday evening.

Like the gourmets at the Viktualienmarkt, game connoisseurs can browse around 500 to 600 new games.

Tom Werneck from Haar (84) has been a regular guest here for 53 years, making him the oldest games journalist in the world and a secret honorary participant.

He describes his impressions to the Munich Merkur.

Could you briefly describe the atmosphere at the trade fair?

The game inventors go straight into the huge hall, where there is a special room reserved for them, set up their games and in the evening they stand together, have a drink in their hand, a bit blah.

The mood is good because it is very important that good relationships develop.

As a game lover, what do you think about the fact that board games and game nights are back in fashion?

Great.

We are experiencing a multiplier effect.

Then someone comes and says: “Sit here.” The enthusiasm that one person has for a game is passed on to the next person.

Board games alone generate sales of three quarters of a billion euros.

As a rule, things are not played just once, but a lot.

We have now arrived in Haar on the 680th game evening.

After the renovation in the community center we have our rooms again, the place is full.

People want to play because there are many whose partners don't like to play.

You need teammates.

Do you have any games in mind at the show?

At the trade fair you can only see: Is this a great design, is it appealing?

Does that turn me on?

The next step is to play it at home, because you have to think of games like complex software.

I can only try it out in practice and then say: Is this thing any good or do I say after playing it once: That's it.

Thanks.

Bye.

What you see: The touch of American influences with licenses from Star Wars, for example, which cost a huge amount of money.

This is reflected in the prices, but obviously that's what people want.

Is there an influence of software and digital development on physical games?

A clear yes.

Technically, more and more is possible.

For example, I can print conductor tracks.

If the game is supported and complemented by two real people, then yes.

But if on the other side it's not a person sitting on it, but a screen, then it's no longer an analog game.

It's about supporting the game, just as a dice supports the game because it creates an element of chance.

There are also games that come back from the digital world to the analogue, such as the village game.

Hexagons that you create and form a landscape.

So you build your own world.

There is nothing that people do that is not reflected in the game in some way.
