After a half-hearted end and start to the year, television fiction is reactivated in February with some interesting proposals.

In our selection there are several period dramas, which travel from the Japan of the samurai to the Paris occupied by the Nazis in World War II or the New York high society of the sixties and seventies.

We also find alternative worlds, science fiction and the terror of current war.

In addition,

Larry David

(day 5 on HBO Max) returns with its 12th season to close a path that began in 2000 telling the adventures of a fictional version of himself.

Another humorous proposal is the one brought by

Ted

(the 22nd on SkyShowtime), a prequel to the film of the same name starring the hooligan teddy bear voiced by Seth MacFarlane.

Looking ahead to Valentine's Day, two premieres with a romantic tone stand out, both of British origin and both available on the 8th:

The Lovers

(on SkyShowtime) and

Always the Same Day

(on Netflix).

& Mrs. Smith'.

The film that brought together Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in 2005 is transformed, in the hands of Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane (both have coincided in

Atlanta

) into a series that combines action, espionage and some romance.

Glover and Maya Erskine are John and Jane Smith, two lonely people willing to leave their lives behind to carry out the missions that a spy agency sets for them.

The problem is that, in order not to raise suspicions, in their new identities they are a married couple.

The series has taken several turns in its development (Phoebe Waller-Bridge was co-creator and co-star, but left the project due to creative differences) and now arrives with names in its cast such as Alexander Skarsgard, Sarah Paulson, Sharon Horgan, John Turturro, Wagner Moura or Úrsula Corberó.

When and where to see it?

The eight chapters premiere on Friday the 2nd on Amazon Prime Video.

The Swans

Truman Capote managed to be the confidant of a group of women from the New York elite, whom he nicknamed the swans.

After years of cultivating their friendship, the writer ended up writing a fiction inspired by their lives in which he exposed his most intimate secrets.

Through time jumps and changes in point of view, this series traces the relationship between the writer and his swans with a dizzying cast: Tom Hollander plays the author and they are played by Naomi Watts, Demi Moore, Chloe Sevigny, Calista Flockhart , Diane Lane and Molly Ringwald.

The second season of Ryan Murphy's anthology series about great rivalries has an air that is more melancholic than acidic and those who have seen it in its entirety highlight the performances of Watts and Hollander.

When and where to see it?

HBO Max will premiere the first two episodes in Spain on February 7, followed by a new one every week until the season's eight are complete.

The fifth Commandment

Timothy Spall and Sheila Hancock, in the series 'The Fifth Commandment'.

British critics praised this crime drama based on real events.

Ben Field was a charming and religious young man who, in reality, befriended vulnerable people in order to get them to include him in their wills and, later, kill them in what he believed would be the perfect crime.

His two victims were a teacher he knew at university and a retired school headmistress, two lonely residents of a Buckinghamshire village.

Critics highlight that, unlike other fictions that recreate the facts and the criminal, here the story does not lose focus on its victims to reflect the horror and drama behind it.

When and where to see it?

The four episodes will be available on the 13th on Filmin.

It could also have been titled Dior, Chanel and the Nazis.

Because, after

Cristóbal Balenciaga

approached the Basque designer's career from the point of view of the

biopic

, the new proposal turns towards the

thriller

to review little-known facts and moments in the lives of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel.

With the Nazi takeover of Paris during World War II, the two designers' worlds change.

Their rivalry will be joined by the different circumstances they experienced: while Dior's little sister collaborated with the French Resistance, Chanel collaborated with Nazi intelligence.

The series vindicates Dior's vision of creation and art as survival.

Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche are the protagonists of a cast that includes John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer, Glenn Close, Maisie Williams and Claes Bang.

Apple TV+ premieres the first three episodes on Wednesday the 14th, followed by a new one every Wednesday until the series completes 10.

Wrapped in a mystery

thriller

, this series delves into the drama of the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland, institutions run by Catholic orders that housed “fallen women,” forced to work in deplorable conditions under the supervision of nuns.

Critics have applauded the work of Ruth Wilson leading the cast of this drama, which they describe as heartbreaking and complex.

Avatar: The Last Airbender,

Gone is the time when the four nations of the world lived in harmony with the Avatar, master of the four elements, maintaining peace between them.

Everything changed with the attack of the Fire Nation and the destruction of the Air Nomads.

Now, a young Air Nomad awakens in a world ravaged by war and will try to claim his place as the new Avatar.

Antonia Scott (Luengo), the most intelligent person on Earth, will have to collaborate with Jon Gutiérrez (Keuchkerian), a temperamental Basque police officer, in a twisted investigation while they discover how their personalities make them complement each other as much as they irritate each other. .

It is one of the most ambitious projects that Prime Video has undertaken in Spain, and although some images and trailers point to a quite dark and even macabre tone, those responsible highlight the luminosity that Madrid brings to the series.

There is no trailer available yet, there are few elements to evaluate.

When and where to see it?
