The demonstrations against right-wing extremism in many German cities also seem to have an impact on the “Sunday question”.

Cologne – Thousands of people will once again come together in many German cities this weekend to take to the streets against right-wing extremism.

The recent demonstrations are obviously met with great approval among the population: seven out of ten Germans (72 percent) understand this, as shown in an ARD survey published on Thursday (February 1) in Cologne.

And they have a particular impact on the poll numbers of one party: the AfD.

According to the “Deutschlandtrend” survey, the right-wing party is currently losing support at the federal level.

According to this, 19 percent of those surveyed would vote for the party if there were a federal election on Sunday.

That was a decrease of three percentage points compared to the survey the previous month.

The Union also has to give up: it loses slightly by one percentage point and falls to 30 percent - but remains by far the strongest force.

Current survey: SPD and Greens win easily

Among the parties in the traffic light coalition, the SPD climbed to 16 percent (+2) and the Greens to 14 percent (+1).

The FDP loses one percentage point and would miss out on entry into the Bundestag with four percent.

According to the survey, the newly founded Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party, on the other hand, would have a chance of entering parliament with five percent.

In other surveys, the AfD has recently slipped below the 20 percent mark several times.

Since the research center

Correctiv

published a meeting between radical right-wingers, including AfD officials, around three weeks ago, protests and demonstrations against the right have increased.

In addition, the debate about a possible AfD ban was reignited.

Of the more than 1,300 respondents, more than half (51 percent) believe it is not appropriate to initiate ban proceedings.

37 percent consider a ban procedure to be appropriate.

According to the survey, two thirds of Germans (65 percent) are in favor of the other parties taking greater action on the content of the AfD.

Around every second eligible voter (48 percent) was in favor of cutting state party funding for the AfD.

Surveys on voting behavior are not predictions

For what is said to be a representative survey, the Infratest Dimap institute surveyed 1,303 eligible voters in Germany between January 29th and 31st.

Election surveys are generally always subject to uncertainty.

Among other things, weakening party ties and increasingly short-term voting decisions make it more difficult for opinion research institutes to weight the data collected.

In principle, surveys only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not predictions of the election outcome.

The demonstrations against the right should continue.

In Berlin, a human chain of demonstrators is planned for Saturday around the Reichstag under the motto “We are the firewall”.

According to the organizers, more than 100,000 people are registered.
