Sonthofen - Cheers from Lorena Brandl: Germany's currently best taekwondo fighter has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

This was announced by the world association “World Taekwondo”.

Brandl will compete in Paris in the women's class over 67 kilograms.

“I couldn't believe it at first.

“I am so incredibly happy and proud,” says the sports soldier from the Sonthofen sports support group.

Lorena Brandl has been among the top 10 in the world rankings for years, and the 26-year-old most recently landed in 8th place in the ranking that is decisive for the Olympics. Because only the top five in the world rankings in the four women's and men's classes qualify directly for participation in Paris , the seven-time German champion still had to tremble.

What was decisive then: In the ranking, two Turkish women and two British women were listed among the top seven.

But because each nation is only allowed to send one participant to the start, Lorena Brandl slipped to sixth place.

And after the ranking-leading Frenchwoman Althea Laurin was reported to the world association this week about the so-called host “quota”, Lorena Brandl’s Olympic ticket was confirmed.

Showtime is on August 10th, when Lorena Brandl fights at the Grand Palais in Paris.

By the way, the date could be a good omen, because on August 10, 2012, Helena Stanek (then Fromm) won the only German women's medal at the Olympic Games to date in London.

At the same time, August 10th is Lorena's name day - her name translates as "decorated with laurels".

Good omens for the second German precious metal.
