In an analysis, the director of the American foreign secret service has lashed out against the regime of Kremlin autocrat Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Putin's "tragic and brutal fixation" on Ukraine has "already shamed Russia and exposed its weaknesses," wrote William Joseph Burns, "from its one-dimensional economy to its excessive military strength to its corrupt political system."

CIA chief Burns: Vladimir Putin embodies “resentment, ambition and insecurity”
As US President Joe Biden affirmed, the United States is “faced today with one of those rare moments that is as momentous as the beginning of the Cold War or the period after September 11th,” said the former Vice Foreign Minister: “China's rise and “Russia’s revanchism presents formidable geopolitical challenges in a world of intense strategic competition.”

that he has spent much of the last two decades trying to understand “the explosive combination of resentment, ambition and insecurity that Russian President Vladimir Putin embodies: “
I have learned that it is always a mistake , underestimating his fixation on controlling Ukraine and its decisions.
He believes that without this control, Russia cannot be a great power, nor can he be a great Russian leader.”

CIA chief Burns's clear statements come at a time when Ukrainian commanders are warning of a possible major Russian offensive on the city of Kharkiv with a population of over a million inhabitants.
And in the context of the announced major NATO maneuver, in which the German Bundeswehr will send its 10th Panzer Division to the Baltics.
It's a heated geopolitical situation.
Burns praised the suffering people of Ukraine in this situation.
“I saw their bravery firsthand on frequent wartime trips to Ukraine, punctuated by Russian airstrikes and vivid images of Ukrainians' tenacity and ingenuity on the battlefield,” the 67-year-old intelligence officer explained in his analysis: “Putin's war was for Russia is already a failure on many levels.
