A network failure paralyzes the Mainz University Medical Center.

The care of patients in the house is guaranteed, new ones are no longer accepted.

The crisis team of the largest clinic in the country is meeting.

Mainz - After a comprehensive network failure at the Mainz University Medical Center, only limited operations are possible in the largest clinic in Rhineland-Palatinate.

All patients, including 54 intensive care patients, could be cared for, a spokeswoman said on Friday morning.

However, planned interventions and non-urgent outpatient treatments would be postponed.

The network failure occurred around 5 a.m. and the house's crisis team was called together.

All electronic network systems such as patient documentation and imaging are affected.

The spokeswoman explained that the control centers in Mainz and Wiesbaden as well as surrounding hospitals had been informed.

The university medical center initially opted out of emergency treatment.

Patients for whom procedures were planned at a university medical clinic were asked to contact the respective clinic by telephone.

The spokeswoman said we are working hard to find the cause of the failure.

The Mainz University Medical Center includes a total of more than 60 clinics, institutes and departments.

Every year, the only university clinic in Rhineland-Palatinate provides care to more than 300,000 people as inpatients or outpatients, and around 8,700 people work there.

In June last year, the University Medical Center had to temporarily withdraw from emergency care.

At that time, an important network cable was damaged during construction work, which in turn caused a complete failure of the IT systems.

After several hours of work on the IT, the hospital was able to resume normal operations.
