Norway's King Harald doesn't want to abdicate early, but now a respiratory infection has put him out of action.
Crown Prince Haakon has to step in again.
Oslo – King Harald V of Norway (86) is sick again.
As the Norwegian royal family announced, the regent is on sick leave due to a respiratory infection.
By far not the only infection that has kept King Harald confined to bed in recent years.
Fortunately, the monarch can rely on his son; Crown Prince Haakon (50) represents his father.

According to the royal calendar, the next scheduled appointment with King Harald is scheduled for February 4th, when Harald V is scheduled to attend the national archery competition in Stjørdal.
Until then, Crown Prince Haakon represents King Harald at various audiences and the cabinet meeting in the royal palace.
At least Haakon can count on the support of Crown Princess Mette-Marit (50) again during this time.
After recovering from coronavirus, Mette-Marit recently traveled to Cairo to give the opening speech for guest country Norway at the international book fair.

Despite health problems: King Harald does not want to abdicate
It remains to be seen whether King Harald will be fit enough to make a public appearance on February 4th.
At least, according to the royal family, the Norwegian monarch did not currently have to be hospitalized, as was the case in 2022 and 2023.
At that time, Harald V. had to be treated with antibiotics in the clinic; in both cases, the reason was also an infection.
And in previous years, King Harald had also struggled with health problems.

In 2003, the palace announced that King Harald had bladder cancer, and in 2005 and 2020 he had to undergo heart valve operations.
The Norwegian regent will probably not consider resigning despite renewed illness; King Harald recently made clear comments about a possible abdication.
The fact that he knows his tasks with Haakon and Mette-Marit are in the best of hands will probably contribute to his recovery.
