Most recently, 38,778 people lived in the large district town of Erding.

Thanks to immigration, an increase of just 32 people was recorded last year.

Erding

– The city of Erding has once again lost its once strong growth.

In 2023, the city's population increased by just 32 people, according to the newsletter.

According to the residents' office, this only minimally positive balance is solely due to the influx.

At the turn of the year, 38,778 citizens were registered in the town hall.

A year before, according to statistics, there were 38,746.

Last year the residents' office recorded 2,305 new arrivals, and in 2022 there were 2,205.

On the other hand, there are the departures: in 2023 there were 2,061, in the previous year it was 1971.

The balance between births and deaths shows that Erding is also affected by demographic change.

249 newborns compared to 361 deaths in the year that ended.

The preliminary low in births was reached in 2022 – with 227 babies.

However, the number of deaths is also increasing, according to the newsletter.

There were 337 in 2022.

However, Mayor Max Gotz expects the population to grow again in the medium term - once the large new development areas, for example on Poststadel/B388, are occupied.

The settlement in the thermal garden is not yet full, and there is also a larger building site there.

In 2019, the ducal city had 38,636 inhabitants, and the following year it had 38,657. In 2021, the number actually fell for the first time in decades: to 38,522. It has been increasing again since then.

Erding will grow again strongly when the new district is developed on the air base site.

As is well known, the Bundeswehr will have finally left the site by the end of this year.

Until a few years ago, Erding grew by several hundred new residents every year.

Then the city council imposed a brake on itself: Erding should not grow by more than one percent of the total population per year - so that the social infrastructure such as schools and kindergartens can also grow with it.

But recently not much has happened, also because there were hardly any larger new residential areas.

Nevertheless, the city has set out to build its 20th daycare center - at Ludwig-Simmet-Anger in Altenerding.

The building site opposite the elementary school is currently being cleared.

The clearing has already taken place and the existing residential building is currently being demolished.

The daycare center will also include a cafeteria that will not only be used by the kindergarten, but also the elementary school.

Last but not least, the city is creating space there for all-day care for primary school children, to which parents will have a legal right from 2026.

And a school and a children's home are planned on the military site.

Weddings in Erding are currently on the rise: in 2023, 241 couples exchanged vows in the new town hall, 16 more than in the previous year.

The number of divorces, however, remained almost constant at 85 to 84.
