The former Tölz city councilor Christoph Schneider has died at the age of 86.

Throughout his life he took part in social and political developments.

Bad Tölz – Christoph Schneider died at the age of 86 after a long, fulfilling life.

Throughout his life he took a strong interest in political events in his homeland, was a member of the Tölz city council as a CSU member from 1972 to 1978 and was also regularly involved in his professional life with what politics achieved: as an engineer at the Bavarian Municipal Audit Association (an independent institution of the Self-government) it was his responsibility to check public construction projects from a technical point of view with regard to their functionality, safety, appropriate staffing and economic efficiency.

As an example of this, his son-in-law, District Administrator Josef Niedermaier, cites a highly complex system such as the Greilinger household waste landfill, which went into operation in 1988.

Experienced a lively time on the city council

When Christoph Schneider was a member of the Tölz city council, Gregor Schöttl was still mayor.

The school center at the old train station and the sewage treatment plant in Farchet were built during this time.

Their district court lost the district town to Wolfratshausen, and regional reform was also an issue, although the Tölzers would have liked to have Oberfischbach.

It was an exciting time because there were lively discussions and arguments about the route of a bypass road that went into operation in 1984.

After careful consideration, Christoph Schneider's decision not to run for the city council again in 1978 arose mainly from his predominantly external professional commitment, which led him to construction projects throughout Bavaria and did not leave him enough time to be constantly present in Bad Tölz .

His daughter Andrea assures him that he remained passionately interested in the welfare and woe of his city.

Whenever possible, her father took part in meetings and discussions: not only with his party, but also with other groups.

History was important to Schneider

A topic close to his heart was always “history” because one can learn and understand a lot from it: not only that of Bavaria and the Isarwinkel, but also that of ancient Greece as the cradle of democracy.

The deceased was a committed member of the district fishing club and a passionate Isar fisherman.

He also belonged to the traditional club of the royally privileged fire shooting society and served as secretary on the board for a long time.

He also rode as a pioneer in the Tölzer Leonhardi ride for many years.

Together with his wife Helmi, he also enjoyed a variety of sports activities: in the mountains, on cross-country skis and by bike.

Did everything for the family

The family meant everything to Christoph Schneider.

With his wife he had three daughters and seven granddaughters.

“It's all girls, we're a female-dominated family,” notes daughter Andrea with a smile and adds: “It's only with the great-grandchildren that things even out a bit.” She also emphasizes her father's strong sense of justice and willingness to help.

He was always there when the family needed his support.
