There was already a village shop in Gmund.

But after just two years, he ran out of steam in 2012.

Now a young entrepreneurial quartet wants to get started with a modern village shop box.

Gmund

- The concept of the village shop box, which the team around Simon Dennhöfer (31) has now presented to the Gmund local council, is simple and well thought out: The container-like, three by five meter box, which is equipped with shelves and refrigerators, should only be used regionally Products produced are sold within a maximum radius of 50 kilometers.

All products of everyday life should be available here - milk, eggs, bread products, meat, cheese and more.

Everything in the village shop box runs fully automatically

In the village shop box, which was designed by a start-up company from Austria and of which there are already ten in Germany and 15 in Austria, everything is supposed to run fully automatically.

Access is via an app, purchases are cashless, with all goods scanned via smartphone and billed digitally.

The box is open around the clock, “contemporary grocery shopping,” added Dennhöfer, who works as managing director of the Miesbach/Bad Tölz/Wolfratshausen district craft association and seven other guilds, in the presentation, which was accompanied by a video.

Because no staff is required, operations should also be possible on Sundays and public holidays.

Whether this is actually permitted by law still needs to be clarified, as it became clear during the meeting.

Suppliers should be responsible for maintaining inventory themselves.

The operators had already checked in advance that a number of producers wanted to take part.

Strengthening direct marketers and a plus for the environment

Before the local councilors began a lively discussion, they heard about a number of advantages - from value creation and strengthening of direct marketers, to uncomplicated shopping opportunities and advantages for environmental protection and tourism.

Martina Ettstaller (CSU) thought the village shop box idea was “super good” and asked about a location.

The fact that the initiators had the Seeglas parking lot in mind later turned out to be not optimal.

Mayor Alfons Besel (FWG) was not the only one who could imagine Moosrain, where there is no local supply anyway.

A commercially defined location also makes it possible to circumvent the local design regulations, which require a gable roof.

“Moosrain is good because there is a traffic jam,” added Third Mayor Christine Zierer (FWG), with a view to as many customers as possible.

Local councilors express a lot of sympathy for the “village shop box” idea

Not only Johann Schmid (SPD) expressed “a lot of sympathy” for the project, Laura Wagner (Greens) also thought it was very important to support regional producers.

“If we want something to change, then this would be a good start,” said Wagner.

There were still questions: “What if a producer cannot continually stock the shelf,” Josef Berghammer (independent) wanted to know.

He breeds and markets Tegernsee organic grass-fed beef himself and said that he couldn't deliver continuously.

According to the initiators, it is possible to share space in the box.

Barbara von Miller (SPD) appeared a little skeptical.

She feared competition from many “well-stocked farm shops”.

Yes to Dorfladenbox: Now we should look for a suitable location

“We should give the box a chance,” said Florian Floßmann (FWG) about the “well thought-out” concept.

And ultimately everyone was convinced of that.

It was decided that the community of Gmund has a positive attitude towards the village shop box.

Now you want to start looking for a suitable location.

The Gmunder Box should not remain the only one: the initiators say they are also in discussions with the municipality of Hausham and the city of Bad Tölz.

They are also supported by the Miesbach Eco Model Region.
