Aspiag Service, concessionaire of the Despar brand for Triveneto, Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy, with 255 direct sales points and 306 affiliates, will make available 40 million compostable shopping bags produced by partner licensees of the Mater-Bi brand of Novamont, a Versalis (Eni) company.

Made with 50% raw material from renewable sources, the bags, biodegradable and compostable in compliance with the international standard EN 13432, respond to the circular logic of the second life of the products: once used, in fact, they can be recycled to collect the organic fraction of the waste and transformed into compost, both through domestic composters and in industrial plants.

"With this choice - comments Nicola Pedron, Aspiag's non-food purchasing director - we continue our commitment to sustainability, which began many years ago. We are very satisfied with this achievement, which is part of the company's overall sustainability strategy".

For Alessandro Ferlito, commercial director of Novamont "this collaboration with Aspiag Service Despar Nordest confirms the crucial role played by large-scale retail trade in the diffusion of good practices for greater sustainability".

Among the raw materials with which the inMater-Bi bag is produced is bio-butanediol, obtained directly from the fermentation of sugars thanks to a world-first proprietary technology, developed at the Bottrighe (Rovigo) site.
