The University Union (Udu) denounces the enormous delay in the disbursement of the rent fund for non-resident students.

"The resources for the year 2023 have just been distributed by the Ministry of the University and will arrive to those eligible in February, a year later than requested", say the boys.

The student union also contests the inadequacy of the allocation, in the face of the housing emergency affecting Italian university cities.

    "Since the beginning of 2023 we have asked Minister Bernini to speed up the disbursement of the rental fund - declares Simone Agutoli, head of housing policies at Udu - but her response was a cumbersome and endless process. The result is that the students will receive financial support with a year of delay, when we have already had to face huge rent costs."

"The allocation of 4 million euros for the entire national territory - continues the student union - is totally insufficient. Compared to 830 thousand non-resident students, less than 2% will receive a contribution equal to 279 euros per year, i.e. €23 per month. A figure negligible, since we pay on average 350 euros per month for the rent, to which we add condominium expenses and bills".

    The territorial disparities - according to what is revealed by an elaboration by the University Union on ministerial data - are evident: in Milan, where the tent protest was born, only 260 students will be helped with 73 thousand euros, while in Bologna the beneficiaries will be 142 and in fact not even 40 thousand euros will arrive .

In Rome, however, the students who will receive support will be 571, in Naples 184, in Veneziaci it stops at 66. Things are better in Turin with 2,309 student beneficiaries for a total of 644 thousand euros;

above 200 thousand euros also Cosenza, Bari and Catania.

"In the face of the housing emergency - attacks Agutoli - the resources arriving in the area are very few and are disbursed with an unacceptable delay. Minister Bernini must clarify the reasons for this slowness and recognize the inadequacy of the resources allocated. We are tired of a minister who only makes announcements and promises. The result is there for all to see: the Government has betrayed students and the right to study."
