Highlights: Police officers from the Torcy national police station have been increasing control operations in the Pontault-Combault sector. A student who was driving at full speed in the rue de Paris around 2:30 a.m. had the unpleasant surprise of finding a patrol on his road. “Even if we lowered the speed to 30 km/h in the city in 2021, there is still too much abuse,” underlines the elected official of Pontault, Gilles Bord.

For several weeks, the staff of the Torcy national police station have been strengthening controls on the Pontault-Combault side

He perhaps thought that at this late hour of the night, the police had deserted the streets of Pontault-Combault.

Serious error.

On the contrary, for several weeks, police officers from the Torcy national police station have been increasing control operations in this sector.

So, on January 26, a student who was driving at full speed in the rue de Paris around 2:30 a.m. had the unpleasant surprise of finding a patrol on his road busy tracking down motorists who were in a bit of a hurry.

When the young man's Skoda arrived in their direction, the police trained their binoculars and the speed displayed immediately led them to chase the vehicle, clocked at 108 km/h on this portion of the N 4 limited to 50 km/h.

At the wheel, the driver heads towards the Francilienne and exits at Lésigny, the town where he lives.

It is there that he is intercepted by the patrol which was behind him.

Reinforced controls

“He explained that he had to return quickly to bring Ventolin to a member of his family,” confides a person close to the case, who specifies that the speed was ultimately set at 103 km/h.

The driver's license was withheld and the rental car was impounded.

Gilles Bord (SE), the mayor of Pontault-Combault, is pleased to see the increase in these checks by the national police.

“Even if we lowered the speed to 30 km/h in the city in 2021, there is still too much abuse,” underlines the elected official.

As recently as Thursday evening, municipal police officers had to deal with a hit-and-run involving a driver who ended up crashing into a tree.

They also carry out daily checks.

Last week, they came across a woman who was driving without a license at 76 km instead of 30. A few days later, they found her behind the wheel, driving with all lights off in the middle of the night..."

For the councilor, strengthening the fight against those who have had their foot a little too heavy on the accelerator is also a way of consolidating a trend observed since the implementation of 30 km/h.

“We know, thanks to our twelve educational radars, that the average speed in Pontault-Combault has fallen,” explains Gilles Bord.

We must continue on this path.
