Enjoy and save calories by chewing properly – Barbara Plaschka has been teaching her course participants this knowledge for years.

Now the qualified biologist, weight loss and nutrition consultant from Holzkirchen has published a book on the subject - on the initiative of Piper Verlag.

Holzkirchen - Barbara Plaschka's credo is quite simple: In order to lose weight, you don't need stressful diets, which all result in even more pounds thanks to the yo-yo effect.

Rather, it relies on the body's own mechanisms, which most people have forgotten: avoiding swallowing and chewing better.

“The sense of taste is better stimulated and the satiety signals are better sent to the brain,” explains Plaschka, who has already presented her weight loss concept in our newspaper.

The result of chewing carefully: You are less hungry - and the portions become smaller.

Word of this approach has spread and has found fertile ground at Piper Verlag in Munich.

After an interview that Plaschka gave in the Brigitte magazine in the summer of 2022, an editor from Piper Verlag got in touch.

“She said that there was no book on this topic yet and asked me if I would like to close this gap,” says the 46-year-old from Holzkirchner.

Allowed to enjoy

For Plaschka, this was “tailwind for my mission,” she admits with a laugh.

“Enjoyment is allowed.

Life is too short to restrict yourself as much as diets demand.” So she agreed, but also made it clear that she didn’t want to give any advice.

“If anything, then the topic should be presented in an entertaining way.”

She was able to implement her relaxed narrative style, which she uses in lectures and workshops.

In November 2023, the entire work – including corrections and graphics – was finished and then it was printed.

Now the promotion follows, and of course Holzkirchen cannot be missed.

Barbara Plaschka will be reading on Tuesday, February 6th in the Holzkirchen book corner.

The book, says Plaschka, “offers me new opportunities to reach people and provide them with tips and tricks.

Because everyone can chew.

It’s all about changing a habit.”

Use the interplay between hunger and satiety

The Ozempic weight loss injection, which is becoming increasingly popular, shows how much the desire to lose weight moves people.

Designed as a highly effective diabetes medication, it is increasingly being used as a diet aid.

The medication must be injected once a week.

This appetite suppressant is very fashionable in Hollywood, and off-label use - use in an area for which the drug is not approved - is also becoming more and more common in Germany.

Which in turn leads to bottlenecks for the actual target group - although, according to Plaschka, a syringe costs up to 600 euros on the black market.

What the expert finds remarkable: “Among other things, the drug has an effect on an intestinal hormone that is also increasingly released through chewing.” Her conclusion: “We can all use the interplay between hunger and satiety.

To do this we just have to change our consciousness a little.”
