Asylum was a big topic: The Weilheim district office asked the mayor, local councilors and office managers to come to Hohenpeißenberg for a meeting.

It was about solidarity, but also about headwind.

Region - In 2024, two buses with 50 people each are expected in the Weilheim-Schongau district, which will be distributed to the accommodations in the district.

There are a total of 3,500 places, including the thermal halls in Penzberg, Antdorf, Eglfing, Wessobrunn, Schwabsoien and Wildsteig.

The district office is still looking for space and rental properties.

A “harmonious” event

The district office subsequently described the event in Hohenpeißenberg as “harmonious”.

Those responsible thanked him for a “very good cooperation”.

The solidarity is very high.

However, they warned of headwinds.

In isolated communities there had been incidents in the form of “information sheets” – two cases were reported.

But mayors, their families and people who make private land available have also been approached.

Effects of the Greiling judgment on the district

The municipality of Greiling (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district) had sued against the forced allocation of refugees and was initially successful in an emergency decision by the administrative court in January.

The extent to which the ruling will affect the Weilheim-Schongau district was also the subject of the meeting in Hohenpeißenberg.

Emotional discussions flared up again in several local councils, for example in Hohenfurch.

There was no escalation here like in the neighboring district, said Bernhard Pössinger from the district office a few days after the verdict.

Bernbeuren was threatened with compulsory assignment once.

He continues to build on the solidarity of the communities with one another.

At the meeting in Hohenpeißenberg, the district office added: “The current judgment case concerns those entitled to benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.

However, the Weilheim-Schongau district always aimed to only assign incorrect residents who were subject to residence restrictions to the municipalities.

“The judgment therefore has no impact on the district’s joint action with the municipalities,” said press spokesman Dominik Detert.

Police: No major incidents around the accommodations

From the perspective of his Schongau police station, there are no major incidents surrounding the accommodation, said its head Herbert Kieweg.

He also speaks for the offices in Weilheim and Penzberg.

School district director Ingrid Hartmann-Kugelmann gave an insight into the topic of schools.

There are currently 8,200 students being taught at the 37 state primary and secondary schools as well as the three private schools, 1,820 of whom have a migrant background.

In primary and secondary schools, students are integrated into regular classes.

There are also support lessons and courses.

Speaking about childcare, Dr.

Nora Schmidt from the district office.

Alternative forms of care such as introductory and play groups, as well as “permit-free child day care” are intended to relieve the burden on the system and give communities more time to create additional childcare places.
