Nobel Prize for Terrorism?
A Norwegian lawmaker submitted the nomination of the United Nations Agency for the Palestinian Palestinians, UNRA, for the Nobel Peace Prize, at a time when the organization is under global criticism for the involvement of its employees in the October 7 massacre and membership in the terrorist organization Hamas.
Esmond Okrost, a member of parliament from the Norwegian Labor Party and the deputy chairman of the parliament's foreign affairs committee in Oslo, told the local newspaper "Dagbladt" that he chose to submit the agency's candidacy because of "the work over the years to provide essential support to the Palestinians and the entire region". Okrost added that the agency's work has been "critical for more than 70 years".
The United Nations claimed yesterday that there is no substitute for UNRWA's activities and that the organization has no alternative strategy for UNRWA's activities in the Gaza Strip. The organization even expressed concern that the suspension of the organization's budgets by some of the countries Donations will continue, UNRA will find it difficult to continue operating in the Gaza Strip.
Nomination for the Nobel Prize does not guarantee winning the prestigious award, but the agency's nomination highlights a widespread public mood in Europe that sees the allegations against UNRWA as an Israeli "propaganda campaign" designed to discredit its name.
