We are not a quota

Among Fernando Savater's many regrets about how EL PAÍS has changed is his complaint about an “unfortunate female invasion.”

And I without knowing it.

He also anticipated, with chagrin, that in his weekly collaboration he was more than likely to substitute “a” instead of “one.”

Of course, it would be fairer if the space he left was occupied by someone at his gonadal level.

He is not the only intellectual who kicks against equality in a ridiculous rebellion with no other cause than to deny what is justice.

They are blinded and that is why they have not seen the systematic positive discrimination for which they have been rewarded for the simple merit, apparently important, of having hanging genitals.

When all the newspaper signatures were male, they did not cry out to heaven for such flagrant injustice nor did they notice our absence.

In their comfortable fratry they must have believed that the table set, the shirts ironed and the well-loved children well cared for were things that were done alone while they conquered the world, founded newspapers and took over the positions of greatest power and visibility.

Well, despite these sagacious thinkers, always attentive to the unfair promotion of women, our path has only just begun.

We have training and knowledge, ambition and the desire to take on the world exactly like them.

We are not a quota, we are half of humanity, we have already come for half of everything, we are not going to settle for crumbs.

They have not yet learned that we have spent three hundred years unwavering in our efforts to be more than just the backbone of those fabulous gentlemen who only love and appreciate us if we flatter them without contradicting them.

So what if there is someone mediocre among us?

Have they complained about the numerous useless men who occupy chairs that are too big for them?

But what do they want?

That, having more academic training and brilliant records, we lock ourselves into the tasks that once were said to be ours?

Do you want to play with half of the competition neutralized so that the field is just for the boys?

I already feel sorry for them because they will have no choice but to accept that we have not come to this world to serve them coffee and they can complain all they want that we are not going to give up what is ours and they took it from us thanks to that They never see what is called machismo.
