The Weilheim city councilor Ullrich Klinkicht and the former left-wing district chairman Rolf Walther from Ohlstadt were at the founding party conference of the Sahra-Wagenknecht party BSW in Berlin - and were impressed.

- "It was an emotional day with a lot of standing applause and, in addition to all the formal duties of a party conference, impressive and motivating," says Rolf Walther about the founding party conference of the "Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht - for Reason and Justice" (BSW).

The alliance headed by the polarizing East German politician is currently in the process of positioning itself and setting up state associations.

Oskar Lafontaine also speaks

Around 380 delegates came together in the former DEFA premiere cinema “Kosmos” on Karl-Marx-Allee in the federal capital.

“It was well organized, with contributions in terms of content and speakers on a remarkable level,” reports Walther.

In addition to Wagenknecht, who gave a keynote speech, Wagenknecht's husband and former finance minister Oskar Lafontaine - the former finance minister is her husband - also spoke to the alliance members.

What was particularly impressive for Walther was that everything that was said at the party conference was highly consistent with his political views, his life experience and basic convictions.

It was also a special experience for Klinkicht.

“I have never been a member of a party.

“That was something different than the founding of the ‘Weilheim Miteinander’ group back in the Dachsbräu,” says Klinkicht.

He was also able to get to know Wagenknecht and Lafontaine personally.

In the coming weeks and months, Walther and Klinkicht want to recruit colleagues for the BSW in the Weilheim-Schongau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen districts.

Klinkicht said they wanted to try as quickly as possible to establish a joint district association or two independent ones if there were enough interested parties.

“There’s a lot to do.”

The first goal is the European elections

“We have to look for candidates for local councils and the district council; we want to be involved in the area,” says Walther.

It is crucial that the alliance finds itself in the regional committees, achieves significant mandates and accommodates officials in order to gain influence as a party.

If that doesn't work in the coming years, Walther fears the worst: "Then we'll just be a fringe group and disappear - like the pirates back then."

For Klinkicht, the first big goal is the European elections on June 9th.

If the five percent hurdle were reached in Bavaria, the BSW would kill two birds with one stone: Then the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance would be admitted to the 2026 local elections and would not need to collect signatures for its candidacy.

So far there is only the so-called circle of friends, which was founded in January.

Klinkicht is not yet a BSW party member either, but he has already submitted an application for membership.

Apparently the new party wants to carefully examine who it accepts so that - as is often the case with new parties - there are no extremists and crazy people in its own ranks.

“I think there are no problems for me,” says Klinkicht.

But he expects to wait a few months before admission.
