“The church tower, which is visible from afar, should shine in new splendor again,” said Deacon Christian Pastötter at the annual general meeting of the support association of the Maria Thalheim pilgrimage church.

This is currently the large, expensive project that those responsible are concerned with.

Architect Udo Rieger was also a guest at the meeting and presented the renovation work in detail.

Maria Thalheim - In his annual report, chairman and mayor Hans Wiesmaier discussed the support association and its tasks for maintaining the church.

According to a press release from the association, 272 building blocks at 500 euros each have been donated since it was founded in 2011, and further donations from members, friends and patrons have now raised a total of 213,000 euros.

“These donations were used to support the interior renovation, especially the restoration of the high altar and all side altars as well as the golden grille and the holy bodies,” reported Wiesmaier.

The treasurers Gerhard Hilger and Kathrin Wiesmaier reported donations of over 11,000 euros in the past two financial years.

According to its statement, a special concern of the association is “to preserve the pilgrimage church with its special furnishings in the spirit of the Rococo for present and future generations.”

Pastötter said: “I am pleased that another milestone in the extensive renovation work is now about to be implemented at this special place of faith in the Erding district.” The accompanying architect Rieger from Isen reported that the tower renovation was divided into two measures.

On the one hand, this is the repair of the tower facade and, on the other hand, the supporting structure in the tower.

Inside, the roof structure and the staircases would be cleaned, repairs would be made to the wooden structures and the stairs, railings and climbing aids would be repaired.

“The basis for repairing the tower facade ranges from surveying services, preliminary restoration investigations and reports on wood pest infestation to precise damage mapping and renovation planning,” explained Rieger.

The first step was to create sample areas (we reported).

According to Rieger, the work begins with repairing the base plaster and scaffolding the tower.

Then the church painting work will begin to reconstruct the version from before 1980. The pilgrimage church will get a new look, and in the future the tower will shine in ocher yellow again.

The declared goal of the Maria Thalheimer Support Association is to support the church administration with 20,000 euros in shouldering its own contribution of 80,000 euros.

Donations are therefore always welcome.
