The planned building will be much larger than the old one.

Here is a view from the east.

We want to use every square meter efficiently.

The next step has been taken: Architect Christoph Albl from Oberau has now presented the Oberammergau building committee with the plans for the new building of the rescue station on Rottenbucher Straße.

Not only a state-of-the-art operations center is planned, but also apartments.

Oberammergau – She almost came to the northern Ammertal.

But now it is clear: the new rescue station will remain on Rottenbucherstrasse in Oberammergau.

At the building committee meeting, Mayor Andreas Rödl (CSU) explains why she almost left.

There is a twelve-minute time limit for emergency response within a station's coverage area.

This is the maximum time it can take an emergency vehicle to get from the headquarters to the scene of the incident.

Since the guard covers the entire Ammertal, time is tight in some corners.

For Oberammergau this means: There are still no problems in the south to Oberau.

But Bad Bayersoien in the north, for example, is almost too far away - almost.

Because the location on Rottenbucher Strasse could only just be maintained, so the guard in Oberammergau remained purely mathematical.

“We were in awe,” says Rödl.

The people of Oberammergau were critical of a relocation to the northern Ammertal.

However, for the town hall boss it is “very important” that the guard in the village of the Herrgottsschnitzer remains – not least because of the major Passion event.

But as is well known, the BRK building is in a “catastrophic condition,” he emphasizes.

The dilapidated property currently does not deserve to be called a rescue station.

A new building is needed, which is why the municipality is pulling together with the Bavarian Red Cross (we reported).

New rescue station almost had to move to the northern district

Architect Christoph Albl from Oberau presented what the new building could look like at the committee meeting.

The 1,900 square meter area that the BRK district association bought last year will no longer be recognizable.

“We want to use every square meter efficiently,” explains Albl.

In the future, an administration office, classroom, kitchen, emergency doctor's room and two apartments for employees will be built on one floor of the multi-story building.

“You also have to take that into account these days in order to find employees,” says Albl.

Job advertisements without living space are almost uninteresting for potential external employees.

The architect can identify 23 parking spaces on the site in his plans.

Since the building is going to be a lot bigger than the old one, it was important to Albl to lower it gradually so that it wouldn't appear too massive to the residents.

It adapts to the height of Rottenbucher Straße and then gradually becomes lower.

“It won’t be a bulwark,” assures Albl.

In addition, a new building wing, the complex as a whole will resemble a horseshoe, is to be built in the inner courtyard.

Nothing is set in stone yet

Nothing is set in stone yet.

It is currently about the application for a preliminary ruling.

What this means for the layman: This means that certain questions about the admissibility of the project are clarified before the building application is submitted.

This has binding effect for the subsequent approval process.

The committee gave its consent.

The application will now be passed on to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office.

If all goes well, plans could be approved in 2025 and ground could break in 2026.

During the construction phase, supplies from the Bavarian Red Cross employees should continue to be secured.

Those responsible still have to think about where the preparedness will be outsourced.

“Possibly in the water management office building next to it,” says Albl.

This would largely be unused.
