The DGB district association is officially calling for participation in the demos against right-wing extremism.
We want to use “everything we have against these inhumane ideologies”.
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – The participants in the demonstrations against right-wing extremism come from all walks of life.
One or two union flags could also be seen during the protests in Bad Tölz on recent Sundays.
In the run-up to the demos on February 4th in Geretsried and Penzberg, the DGB district executive committee has now decided on an official call for its members to take part.
Call to take part in the demos in Geretsried and Penzberg
“The right-wing extremist circles around the AfD dream of deporting up to 20 million fellow citizens because, in their eyes, they do not have the right grandparents, the 'wrong' skin color or the 'wrong' political attitude,” writes Raimund Novak, district chairman of the German Trade Union Confederation, in a press release.
“They want to destroy democracy, workers’ rights and the welfare state.” The trade unionists would “defend themselves against these inhumane ideologies with everything we have.
We call on all citizens in the region to take part in the demonstrations on February 4th in Penzberg and Geretsried.”

DGB criticizes the appearance of the IHK President in Bad Tölz
The radicalization of some business associations is being observed with great concern in trade union circles.
While the companies are urgently looking for workers and the umbrella organizations, together with the DGB, are warning nationwide against xenophobic agitation and the AfD's propaganda, "we hear and read here about the most primitive propaganda," it says in the message.
Specifically addressed in this context is the appearance of Klaus Josef Lutz, President of the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria, at the business reception last week in the Tölzer Kurhaus (we reported).
“The vocabulary used and the manner of delivery showed the worst parallels to speeches by former and current despisers of democracy,” said Klaus Barthel, deputy DGB district chairman, who was there himself.
“The unions fought against fascist movements from the beginning”
“At the same time, I was very pleased that many of the participating entrepreneurs, self-employed people and craftsmen from the region who were there were unpleasantly affected and some explicitly distanced themselves from the top official’s statements,” said Barthel.
“Despite all differences of opinion, we in the district maintain an objective and very constructive relationship with the regional committees of chambers, guilds, associations and companies in the district.
We are counting on the members of the IHK in Munich and Upper Bavaria to say goodbye to representatives like President Lutz, who was already controversial as a top manager, as soon as possible,” Barthel continued.
In addition to the IHK, the Chamber of Crafts and the Oberland Economic Forum were invited to the reception.

Novak believes that it is now all the more important to take to the streets together.
“The unions fought against fascist movements from the beginning.” They also experienced what the end of democracy meant 90 years ago: “The unions, along with the parties of the labor movement in 1933, were the first organizations to be persecuted, broken up and banned.
They were the first to be taken to the Dachau concentration camp if they were not killed straight away.”
