After Jan Hofer and Linda Zervakis, Judith Rakers also said goodbye to her news anchor role on the ARD “Tagesschau”.

An ex-speaker now explains what could be behind it.

Hamburg – It is the third speaker departure from the “Tagesschau” within four years.

Why are more and more journalists saying goodbye to Germany's most successful news program?

Former “Tagesschau” spokesman Marc Bator (51) now provides possible reasons for the increased number of ARD departures.

Public television vs. private television: Why more and more “Tagesschau” speakers are leaving

Jan Hofer (74) retired in 2020, but then went to competitor RTL.

Linda Zervakis (48) also changed sides and has been in front of the camera for ProSieben.Sat.1 since her exit in 2021.

On January 31, 2024, Judith Rakers presented the news situation to the ARD audience for the last time for the main edition of the “Tagesschau”.

The TV presenter believes there are several reasons for the increased departures.

Reasons could be the type of contract, employment status and remuneration.

Thorsten Schröder (56), with the “Tagesschau” since 1999.

At the request of

, NDR confirmed that the news anchors are freelancers and do not have permanent positions at the public broadcaster.

In addition, the ARD faces are paid 285 euros per “Tagesschau” main edition.

These could be possible reasons why more journalists are switching to private broadcasters, where they have more options professionally and financially.

Marc Bator still doesn’t want to miss his time at the “Tagesschau”.

For him, working as a speaker for ARD was a “dream job” - no wonder he remained loyal to the station for 13 years.

After 19 years, Judith Rakers is now turning to her new calling: writing.

The former “Tagesschau” spokeswoman recently published her first children’s book “Judith’s Little Farm”.
